The Galeão Airport and Startup Micaelis Join Forces to Develop Tests with the Revolutionary “Flying Car” and Design the Future of Mobility in Rio.
The Galeão Airport, in Rio de Janeiro, announced a partnership with Micaelis, a Brazilian startup focused on air mobility, to test the much-talked-about “flying car.” The project, which promises to transform urban transport, will use eVTOLs (electric vertical takeoff and landing vehicles, similar to helicopters) in autonomous flights connecting Tom Jobim International Airport to strategic destinations in the metropolitan region of Rio.
With an initial duration of two years, the partnership aims to build a “vertiport” — a structure dedicated to the landing and takeoff of flying cars. Despite the enthusiasm, the companies have not yet announced an official date for the start of the tests.
Partnership to Have Flying Car at Galeão Airport

“This partnership reaffirms our commitment to transforming RIOgaleão into a hub of innovation and sustainability, connecting Rio de Janeiro to the future of air mobility with an efficient transportation alternative.

As one of the engines of the state’s economy, we are working to attract disruptive businesses to the region,” said Alexandre Monteiro, president of Galeão Airport.
For his part, Vincent Kieffer, co-CEO of Micaelis, highlighted the innovative impact of the project: “We are excited to collaborate with RIOgaleão on this visionary project that will not only revolutionize urban transport but also set new standards for sustainable aviation in Brazil and beyond.”
New App
In addition to designing the flying car, the agreement aims to improve the experience of passengers and operators with the development of an app for managing the flow of cargo and people.
This initiative places Galeão Airport at the forefront of air mobility, bringing to Rio de Janeiro an innovative and sustainable transportation alternative that promises to change the way we move around the city and, perhaps, the world. The flying car is increasingly closer to leaving the imagination to soar the skies of Rio.
