Tyde, a renowned German company in the boating industry, in partnership with the automobile manufacturer BMW, has created the largest hydrofoil yacht ever designed for individual use. Nicknamed “Open,” it aims to forever transform the world of luxury boats, as it integrates innovation, sustainability, and style.
Hydrofoil Yacht: Sailing in Aquatic Skies
The hydrofoil yachts, also known as “flying yachts,” lift the main hull above the water by using hydrofoils during movement. These submerged wings provide stability, allowing the yacht to ride on the water’s surface, resulting in benefits like reduced drag, increased speed, and improved fuel efficiency. The act of sailing becomes comfortable and fast, offering a unique experience of gliding over the waters.
Impressive Specifications of BMW’s “Open” Yacht
The “Open” yacht from BMW impresses with a hull length of 14.7 meters that rises 3.5 meters above the waterline while moving. Equipped with active hydrofoils and a dual 100 kW motor, it achieves a cruising speed of 25 knots, also capable of hitting up to 30 knots at zero emissions. The 400 kWh battery demonstrates a commitment to sustainability, as it can be recharged during sailing intervals or through solar panels derived from BMW’s i3 electric car. Moreover, the yacht has a range of up to 50 nautical miles at cruising speed.
