The Chinese Hybrid Model Has Taken a Prominent Position in the Electrified Sedan Segment in the Brazilian Market

The BYD King, plug-in hybrid sedan from the Chinese automaker, recorded impressive results in the Brazilian market, surpassing the sales of the hybrid versions of the Toyota Corolla in November. With 1,075 registrations in the month, the King left behind the 351 registrations of the Japan-Brazil model, consolidating its rise in the electrified sedan segment, according to the Web Motors site.

Consistent Performance in the Second Half

Since its launch in Brazil at the end of June 2024, the BYD King has scheduled competitive strength. In almost every month of the second half, the BYD sedan surpassed the Corolla Hybrid in placements, except for September, when Toyota registered 337 units against 273 of the King.

Despite the good performance, the Corolla still led the year-to-date total, with 4,029 registrations until November, while the BYD King totals 2,988 units. The difference of 1,041 vehicles favoring the Toyota model, which continues to be the most registered hybrid in Brazil in 2024.

A Leap for the Hybrid and Electric Market

The numbers from the BYD King reflect the growth of the electrified vehicle market in Brazil. According to the Brazilian Electric Vehicle Association (ABVE), November marked the highest volume of hybrid and electric vehicle registrations ever recorded for the month, with 17,413 units.

Among these, the plug-in hybrids, the category of the BYD King, represented 40.4% of sales, followed by electric vehicles (31.6%). The electric subcompact BYD Dolphin Mini led the market during the period, with 2,294 registrations, followed by the hybrid SUV BYD Song Pro, with 2,084 units.

Projections for the Electrified Market

From January to November 2024, 155,724 electrified vehicles were sold in Brazil. The ABVE predicts that the total for the year will exceed 160 thousand units, potentially reaching 170 thousand, which would represent an 80% increase compared to 2023.
