BYD King leaves Toyota Corolla behind and leads hybrid sales in Brazil

The Chinese hybrid model has achieved a prominent position in the electrified sedan segment in the Brazilian market

The BYD King, plug-in hybrid sedan from the Chinese automaker, registered impressive results in the Brazilian market, outselling the hybrid versions of the Toyota Corolla in November. With 1.075 registrations in the month, the King left behind the 351 registrations of the Japanese-Brazilian model, consolidating its rise in the electrified sedan segment, according to the Web Motors website.

Consistent performance in the second half of the year

Since its launch in Brazil at the end of June 2024, The BYD King has scheduled competitive strength. In almost every month of the second half of the year, the BYD sedan outperformed the Corolla Hybrid in terms of positions, with the exception of September, when Toyota registered 337 units against King's 273.

Despite the good performance, the Corolla still led the year to date, with 4.029 registrations until November, while the BYD King sum 2.988 units. The difference of 1.041 vehicles favoring the Toyota model, which remains the most registered hybrid in Brazil in 2024.

A leap into the hybrid and electric market

BYD King numbers reflect the growth of the electrified vehicle market in Brazil. According to the Brazilian Electric Vehicle Association (ABVE), November marked the highest volume of hybrid and electric vehicle registrations already registered for the month, with 17.413 units.

Among these, plug-in hybrids, BYD King category, represented 40,4% of sales, followed by electric cars (31,6%). The electric subcompact BYD Dolphin Mini led the market in the period, with 2.294 registrations, followed by the hybrid SUV BYD SongPro , with 2.084 units.

Projections for the electrified vehicle market

From January to November 2024, 155.724 electrified vehicles were sold in Brazil. ABVE predicts that the year's total will exceed 160 units, being able to reach 170 thousand, which would represent an 80% increase compared to 2023.

This reporter must be Japanese because he is very impartial, the Corolla has been in Brazil for several years and sold 4029 thousand as of January, but he forgot to say that the BYD king arrived in (June)
