Toyota Corolla Cross Hybrid Faces Strong Competition From BYD Song Pro That Hits Sales Record and Threatens Toyota Model Leadership
The Toyota Corolla Cross hybrid, one of the leading hybrid SUVs in the Brazilian market, has faced strong competition from the BYD Song Pro. With declining sales and a growing preference for the model from BYD, the competition between these two SUVs promises to be fierce in the coming months, according to Web Motors.
Drop in Sales of Corolla Cross Hybrid
In October, the Corolla Cross hybrid recorded its worst performance of 2024, with only 898 units registered. This number contrasts sharply with the sales peak in May, right after the model’s facelift, when 1,304 units were sold. Since the Song Pro’s entry in July, sales of the Corolla Cross have started to decline, reflecting the growing popularity of the competitor.
Impressive Growth of BYD Song Pro
The BYD Song Pro, launched in July 2024, started modestly, with 442 units sold in the first month. However, the BYD SUV quickly gained traction, reaching a record 4,083 registrations in December, becoming the best-selling hybrid car during that period.

Despite starting sales only in the middle of the year, the Song Pro accumulated 9,671 units sold, an impressive mark considering the 13,458 hybrid SUVs sold by the Corolla Cross throughout the year. The trend indicates that the Song Pro could surpass the Corolla Cross in 2025.
Price and Versions Comparison
Both SUVs offer competitive hybrid options:
- Toyota Corolla Cross:
- XRV Hybrid: R$ 206.290
- XRX Hybrid: R$ 212.890
- BYD Song Pro:
- GL: R$ 189.800
- GS: R$ 199.800
With more affordable prices, the BYD Song Pro presents a competitive advantage, which may explain part of its rapid growth in the market.

Apesar dos 2 terem o híbrido no nome, a tecnologia do BYD está muito a frente pela autonomia da bateria e plug in. Isso que fez o Corolla perder mercado.
