The Brazilian automotive market is about to witness a true earthquake.
While many thought that significant movements in the sector were far off, Toyota has launched a news that promises to shake the foundations: the Corolla, one of the most iconic cars from the Japanese brand, will become a pickup.
The confirmation of this launch paves the way for a fierce competition between already established models in the segment and this bold bet from Toyota. But what exactly should we expect from this news?

Details About the Launch
According to information released by Mobiauto magazine, Toyota has revealed that the arrival of the long-awaited Corolla pickup is expected in 2027, and not in early 2026, as initially speculated.
This postponement was confirmed during a meeting with the dealership network in Brazil and generated high expectations.
This launch, however, will share the spotlight with other equally awaited models: the Renault Niagara and the new Volkswagen Tarok, expected for the same year.
The mission is clear: to directly challenge market leaders like the Fiat Toro, Chevrolet S10, and even the veteran Toyota Hilux.
Design and Dimensions
One of the most intriguing aspects is the use of the TNGA platform, the same one present in the Corolla sedan and Corolla Cross SUV.
This choice ensures a reliable and modern base, in addition to facilitating the integration of components between the models, such as the hood, fenders, and front doors.
In terms of dimensions, the Corolla pickup is expected to be similar to the Fiat Toro, with approximately 5 meters in length and a 3-meter wheelbase.
These measurements are ideal for capturing the intermediate pickup segment, which combines robustness and practicality in one package.

Hybrid Engine and Performance
One of the major differentials of this new pickup is its propulsion system.
As highlighted by the site Autos Segredos, the model will not feature the traditional HEV hybrid system used in the Corolla models, but rather a flex PHEV system, an evolution of the engine already present in the Toyota RAV4.
This system is expected to include a 2.5-liter aspirated flex engine, combined with two electric motors, delivering over 220 horsepower.
Additionally, the presence of all-wheel drive enhances the pickup’s appeal as a robust and efficient vehicle, ready to tackle any terrain.
Fuel Consumption
Another positive point is the fuel consumption, which is expected to be one of the best in the segment.
Based on the data from the RAV4 PHEV released by Inmetro, the expectation is that the pickup will achieve around 14 km/l in the city and 12.9 km/l on the highway when fueled with gasoline.
These numbers position the model advantageously against competitors.
Moreover, the possibility of using ethanol in the flex system ensures greater savings for Brazilian consumers, as the combination of electric motors with alternative fuels has been gaining popularity in the country.
Futuristic Concept and Visual Inspiration from Toyota
In 2023, Toyota unveiled a monocoque pickup concept called EPU during the Tokyo Motor Show in Japan.
Although still a prototype, the model features futuristic lines that could influence the design of the Corolla pickup.
This strategy of combining innovation and functionality reflects the brand’s commitment to offering a product that is modern and appealing to Brazilian consumers.
The visual of the EPU concept highlights bold and aerodynamic lines, elements that could be softened in the final version to balance functionality and aesthetics.
Still, it is likely that the pickup will maintain modern and innovative details, such as LED lights and premium finishes.

Market Strategy in Brazil
Toyota knows that entering the intermediate pickup segment is not a simple task. However, the brand is confident in its established reputation in Brazil, mainly due to the success of the Hilux.
The Corolla pickup will arrive with the mission of expanding this legacy and attracting an audience that seeks power, economy, and reliability in a single vehicle.
The intermediate pickup segment is one of the most competitive in Brazil, but also one of the most lucrative.
The Fiat Toro, for example, has led the market since its launch in 2016, showing that there is a strong appetite for models that combine performance with versatility.
With the arrival of the Corolla pickup, Toyota aims to capture a significant share of this audience.
Challenges and Opportunities for Toyota
Despite all the expectations, the launch will not be without challenges.
The postponement to 2027 places the Corolla pickup in direct competition with equally awaited models, such as the Renault Niagara and Volkswagen Tarok.
This fierce competition will require Toyota to invest heavily in marketing, in addition to ensuring competitive pricing and excellent cost-benefit.
Still, Toyota’s track record in Brazil offers an important advantage. The brand has a history of reliable and well-rated vehicles, a factor that can influence consumer choice.
