A New All-Wheel Drive Model Is Here to Change Everything in Urban and Commercial Transport: Security, Stability, and Electric Autonomy in One Package
Ford has announced the arrival of the new E-Transit Custom AWD, an electric van that will integrate the brand’s commercial line within the Ford Pro division. Set to launch in 2026, the new version will feature all-wheel drive (AWD), developed to serve customers who work in adverse weather conditions or uneven terrains, as well as those seeking greater capacity for leisure and adventure activities.
All-Wheel Drive: Stability and Safety on Any Terrain
The E-Transit Custom AWD was built on the same architecture as the current rear-wheel drive version. The difference is in the second electric motor installed in the front axle, allowing for independent torque distribution between the axles. This gives the van stability and improves dynamic behavior on slippery surfaces, hills, or off-road terrains.
This solution was developed by Ford’s engineering team to ensure that professional operators can maintain safe and efficient operations, regardless of the weather or terrain.

When It Arrives and What to Expect
The arrival in the European market is expected in the spring of the Northern Hemisphere in 2026. At the same time, an AWD version of the E-Tourneo Custom, aimed at passenger transport, will also be launched.
Complete technical details, such as power, battery capacity, or range, have not yet been disclosed. Ford confirmed that this information will be announced closer to the launch.
In the meantime, the current version of the E-Transit Custom remains on sale with a 64 kWh battery and rear motor, delivering up to 336 km of range (WLTP). The choice of a single battery aims to balance range and payload capacity, maintaining the model’s competitiveness. The payload varies between 990 kg and 1,008 kg, depending on the configuration.

Urban Driving, Driving Modes, and Technology
The E-Transit Custom is praised for its agile behavior in cities. It features three driving modes: Eco, Normal, and Sport, to adjust power delivery as needed. The engine options range from 138 hp to 289 hp in the MS-RT version.
In terms of technology, it offers front sensors, a rearview camera, and connection with the Ford Pro ecosystem, which allows monitoring fleets, scheduling maintenance, and optimizing routes, helping businesses reduce costs and increase efficiency.
With the new AWD version, Ford aims to meet the needs of a clientele requiring more traction without sacrificing electric autonomy, aligning with electrification goals in Europe. The E-Transit Custom AWD will be essential for customers who need to balance payload capacity, range, and safety in extreme conditions.
