“Basic” Fare Will Apply to International Flights and Promises Lower Prices; In Exchange, Airline Flexibilizes and Allows Flight Advance Throughout the Day of the Trip.
Gol Linhas Aéreas announced on Friday (26) a significant change in its pricing structure for international flights with the creation of a fare without carry-on baggage. Named “Basic”, the new fare aims to be more accessible, but will allow passengers to bring only one personal item on board, such as a backpack or handbag, that fits under the seat. According to information released by the company and reported by InfoMoney, sales of the new fare will begin on October 14, 2025.
The novelty is part of a package of changes that also includes greater flexibility for passengers. In a move that contrasts with the baggage restriction, Gol will now allow flight advancement throughout the day of the trip, eliminating the previous six-hour window. The measure represents a restructuring in how the company segments its customers, offering an ultra-economical option in exchange for less allowance, while enhancing operational benefits.
Understanding the New ‘Basic’ Fare: Rules and Limits
The creation of the fare without carry-on baggage aligns Gol with a model already established by low-cost airlines in Europe and the United States, where the initial ticket price is reduced to a minimum. In practice, passengers opting for the “Basic” fare will be able to board with just one personal item (handbag or backpack) whose maximum dimensions do not exceed 32 cm in width, 22 cm in height, and 43 cm in depth, with a weight of up to 10 kg. The traditional small wheeled suitcase that goes in the overhead compartment is not included in this fare.

It is essential for consumers to pay attention to the routes where the new option will be available. Initially, the fare without carry-on baggage will only apply to international flights, specifically on trips originating from other countries where Gol operates, heading to Brazil. The only exception within national territory will be the route from Galeão Airport (RJ) to Montevideo, in Uruguay. As reported by InfoMoney, the other fares offered by the company (such as Light, Plus, and Max) will continue to include carry-on baggage allowance.
Increased Flexibility: The New Rules for Flight Advancement
While the new fare restricts baggage, Gol offers a much-anticipated benefit for those with a dynamic routine, especially corporate passengers. The main change is the rule for flight advancement. With the new policy, it will be possible to advance the flight to any available time within the same day of the trip, without the hour limitations.
This flexibility, however, comes with conditions that vary depending on the purchased fare. The company stated that fees for flight advancement, as well as for ticket rebooking, will depend on the profile of the ticket purchased. The market expects that the “Basic” fare will have the highest fees for any type of change, encouraging passengers to be certain of their plans or to opt for a higher fare that offers more included benefits. The complete description of the new rules will be available on Gol’s website starting October 14.
In summary, Gol is betting on segmentation to compete on different fronts. The fare without carry-on baggage seeks to attract the light traveler focused on the lowest possible cost, while the increased flight advancement is a clear nod to the business customer who values flexibility. The change demands, more than ever, consumer attention at the time of purchase to ensure their needs are met.
