Built in 1813 in the rural area of Bananal, the Fazenda das Três Barras preserves memories of the coffee cycle, the visit of Dom Pedro, the visits of JK, and the old route between Brazilian states
The Fazenda das Três Barras, built in 1813 in the rural area of Bananal, marked the coffee cycle in the Paraíba Valley, hosted Dom Pedro before September 7, and today operates as a historic farm hotel.
Fazenda das Três Barras was born at the height of coffee
The farm was built as a large coffee estate and was among the largest coffee producers in São Paulo in the 19th century. Its location placed it within the economic movement that marked the Paraíba Valley.
In addition to production, the Fazenda das Três Barras also hosted muleteers and travelers who passed by the old royal road.

The property was part of the route of goods and people between Minas Gerais, Rio de Janeiro, and São Paulo.
Family maintains farm for generations
The property remains connected to the same family, even after several generations. Records connect the first owners to the old Três Barras sesmaria, existing since the 18th century.
Among the names in the farm’s history, Captain Hilário Gomes Nogueira appears as a central figure. He was responsible for hosting the prince regent in August 1822 and received visitors from the rural elite and empire politicians.
Dom Pedro passed through the independence route
Before September 7, 1822, Dom Pedro crossed different regions until reaching the banks of the Ipiranga. On this journey, he slept at the Fazenda das Três Barras before continuing through the Paraíba Valley.
The visit marked Hilário Gomes Nogueira. Inspired by the events of that year, he had another farm built in Bananal, named Fazenda Independência, associated with the passage of the entourage towards São Paulo.
JK’s room remains preserved
Decades later, the farm hosted Juscelino Kubitschek. Although there are no recorded dates, the former president’s visit appears in his travel diary.
A friend of a former owner, Kubitschek used to stay at the Fazenda das Três Barras when he was in the region. The room he used remains as it was during that period.
The room retains the old furniture and is the only room fully preserved. The other rooms have been adapted over the years to meet current lodging needs.
Farm hotel still receives travelers today
Currently, the Fazenda das Três Barras maintains its main economic activity as a farm hotel. The proposal preserves the experience of sleeping in a place linked to the memory of Dom Pedro and JK.
Despite its historical significance, the property still does not offer guided tour itineraries. Even so, those who stay find an experience associated with the farm’s history and the permanence of its old spaces.
The location also functions as a traditional farm hotel. Available activities include horseback riding and paddle boat rides on the lake.
The structure includes tennis courts, a game room, and a soccer field. For relaxation, there are swimming pools, showers, a swim-up bar, a waterslide, and a sauna, keeping the farm active as a leisure destination in Bananal.
The lodging thus maintains the connection with the travelers who have always passed through the property.
