Strategic stretch of BR-030/BA advances in western Bahia with completed paving, three bridges under construction, and promise to reduce travel time between Cocos and Carinhanha, on an important route for residents, rural producers, transporters, and cargo circulating between regions of the country.
The implementation of 88.6 kilometers of BR-030/BA between Cocos and Carinhanha, in western Bahia, has entered the final stage with the construction of three bridges and is scheduled for delivery in August 2026, as informed by the National Department of Transport Infrastructure.
Financed by the Federal Government through the New PAC, the project has an investment exceeding R$ 254 million and has already reached 96% completion in lots 1 and 2, a stage that precedes the full release of the connection.
When operational, the project is expected to reduce travel time from over six hours to about an hour and a half between the two municipalities, especially during rainy periods when road conditions made traffic difficult.

With the paving completed in the segment, the remaining services focus on Special Art Works, the technical term used for structures like bridges and viaducts, responsible for ensuring the continuity of the route.
Bridges mark the final stage of BR-030/BA
Over the São José, da Mata, and Itapucuru streams, the three bridges under construction form the stage considered necessary to fully open the connection between Cocos and Carinhanha, on a strategic stretch of the federal highway.
In the structure over the São José Stream, the DNIT reported that the work was in the finalization of the pre-slab placement, while the crossbeams were already ready for the concreting phase.
A similar situation was recorded on the bridge over the Mata Stream, where the crossbeams were also prepared for concreting, while the pre-slabs were in the process of being placed.
At the Itapucuru Stream, the crossbeams were ready for concreting, according to the agency, a stage that is part of completing the structures planned to allow the continuation of traffic on the implemented stretch.
During the execution of these services, drivers passing through the region should observe the detours and installed signage, as the movement of machines, teams, and materials temporarily alters local circulation.
Connection between Cocos and Carinhanha gains new route
Starting from the urban perimeter of Cocos, the stretch continues through the urban crossing of Feira da Mata, where there is an intersection with the state highway BA-601, before advancing towards other regional accesses.
Following the route, the connection passes through accesses to Ramalho, Boa Vista, and Juvenília, in Minas Gerais, until reaching the intersection for access to Carinhanha, the final point of the planned implementation.
By connecting productive areas and interior municipalities, BR-030 plays a role that goes beyond local circulation and functions as a transportation axis for vehicles between the Midwest and the Northeast.
According to DNIT, the implementation of the stretch should increase traffic capacity and improve road safety in an area historically marked by circulation limitations during certain times of the year.
For residents of Cocos, Feira da Mata, Carinhanha, and nearby communities, the most direct change is in access to services, commerce, rural properties, and urban centers that depend on this road connection.
With a shorter and more predictable route, daily commutes that were previously conditioned by the weather and road conditions tend to gain regularity when the new connection is released.
Paving improves agricultural flow in western Bahia
The improvement of infrastructure is also linked to rural production in western Bahia, a region where the transport of inputs, goods, and agricultural loads depends on routes capable of operating more regularly.
Among the sectors cited by DNIT as benefiting from the implementation of the paved segment are cotton, sugarcane, beans, corn, cassava, and soybeans, activities relevant to the regional economy.
In producing areas, roads in better conditions reduce logistical barriers and facilitate the connection between rural properties, consumer markets, warehouses, urban centers, and other corridors used for freight transport.
For trucks and commercial vehicles, the paving of BR-030 represents an operational gain on long-distance routes, especially in stretches that previously presented greater traffic difficulty during the rainy season.
The investment of over R$ 254 million, linked to the Novo PAC, focuses resources on the implementation of the stretch and the necessary structures to ensure the continuity of the connection between municipalities.
In October 2024, DNIT had announced an investment of over R$ 240 million for the same stretch; in the January 2026 update, the reported amount increased to over R$ 254 million.
Highway will have a strategic role between Midwest and Northeast
On BR-030/BA between Cocos and Carinhanha, the main numbers of the project help to gauge the progress: 88.6 kilometers of implementation, three bridges in the final stage, 96% execution in lots 1 and 2, and delivery scheduled for August 2026.
After the completion of the paving, the final phase focused on the structures that need to ensure the full continuity of the route, allowing the new segment to function as a stable road connection.
Although the immediate impact is on regional mobility, the project also integrates a broader route, used by vehicles traveling between municipalities in the interior of Bahia and national logistical axes.
According to DNIT, the project should improve traffic between the Midwest and the Northeast, with increased traffic capacity and more safety for those using the highway.
The lack of regular pavement limited transportation during certain periods, especially during rains, a scenario that affected residents, rural producers, transporters, and drivers who depend on the BR-030 to travel through the region.
With the new connection, the expectation is that the travel between Cocos and Carinhanha will become more predictable, reducing the relative isolation of communities and facilitating the circulation of people and goods.
Until the full release of the section, the advancement of the bridges keeps the project in its decisive stage, while attention to detours and signage remains necessary during the final services.
