Inspired by The Great Escape, British Dave Billings began building underground shelters 12 years ago. Today, the project includes two bunkers connected by a tunnel and is set to receive modern equipment to become an entertainment space
A British man named Dave Billings heavily invested in an unusual project. He spent £35,000, equivalent to R$258,500, to create a bunker inspired by the military refuges of World War II.
Inspiration from Cinema
The idea came after watching the classic The Great Escape (1963), a film based on the escape of prisoners from Stalag Luft III.
The production impacted Dave so much that he decided to replicate something similar on his own property in the United Kingdom.

The project began 12 years ago. At the time, he built a 13 m² underground shelter accessed by an old well and stairs.
The space marked the first stage of a dream that is still in progress.
Recent Expansion
Last year, Dave started the second phase. He expanded the structure with a new 35 m² bunker connected to the first by a 10.5-meter tunnel.
All excavation work was done by himself, who also built the walls with his own hands.
The Brit plans to line the tunnel with wood and bring his home closer to the construction.
The idea is to create a secret passage that connects the house and the shelters. Therefore, the project is still incomplete.
Entertainment in the Bunker
When completed, the space will feature modern amenities. Among them are a remote-controlled refrigerator, projector, game simulator, and advanced technological systems.
In addition, Dave’s goal is to turn the bunker into a true entertainment cave.
The long-term plan envisions a fully connected underground network, making the location both a refuge and a leisure area.
