After More Than A Decade Of Production In Brazil, Hyundai HB20 Finally Arrives In The Argentinian Market, Marking A New Phase For The Model.
After 12 years of production at the Piracicaba factory in São Paulo, the Hyundai HB20 will finally cross borders and be sold in Argentina. The news already has a date to start transforming the local landscape: sales in the neighboring country are planned for 2025. Before that, the first units of the hatchback have already been sent, but with a special mission; they will be used for training dealership networks and for display in Argentine stores.
According to Ernesto Cavicchioli, CEO of Hyundai Motor Argentina, this first shipment was a planned effort to advance marketing actions and allow dealerships to present the model in the coming weeks. “In a few days we will have more details about the configuration and specific equipment for our market,” highlighted the executive.
Hyundai HB20: New Entry In The Argentinian Market

The Hyundai HB20, which is a well-established success in Brazil, will face a competitive market in Argentina, where it will have strong rivals such as the Peugeot 208, Toyota Yaris, and Volkswagen Polo. The notable difference is the prominence of the 208, which leads its category and frequently dominates the overall ranking of passenger car sales in the country.

Peugeot publicly acknowledged the errors of the PureTech engine, which caused serious failures in hundreds of thousands of cars, and introduced the new Turbo 100 as a definitive solution, a 1.2 turbo tested for over 3 million kilometers that replaces the faulty belt with a more durable chain.

Automatic cars become ‘cheap’ in Brazil, and models from Toyota, Hyundai, Nissan, and Honda appear for R$ 65,000 with up to 120 hp, CVT transmission, 482 liters of trunk space, keyless entry, and six airbags to tackle traffic without a clutch.

Without relying on an outlet, without a cable, and without the gasoline engine driving the wheels: Nissan created the Note e-POWER, a hatchback that always runs on an electric motor while a combustion engine works only as a generator, delivering to Japan a type of “electric without recharging” that Brazil is almost unfamiliar with.
Meanwhile, the sedan version, the HB20S, will face even greater challenges, competing with the leader Fiat Cronos, along with other competitors like the Volkswagen Virtus and Chevrolet Onix Plus.
Why Did It Take So Long?
The arrival of the Hyundai HB20 in Argentina has been delayed for several reasons over the years. Among them, the limited production capacity of the Brazilian factory, which could not meet additional demand, in addition to difficulties related to the dollar and import restrictions imposed by the Argentine government.
Interestingly, the Creta, another model produced in Piracicaba, has been sold in the Argentine market for years, where it uses a naturally aspirated 1.5 engine with 115 hp.
With the official launch of the Hyundai HB20 in Argentina, the brand aims to finally fill a gap in the market and explore the strong ties between the two countries in the automotive sector. Expectations are high, and the coming months promise updates on the configurations and strategies that Hyundai will adopt to win over Argentine drivers.
