Launched in 2008, the Honda Accord brought a new engine, technologies, and equipment. It underwent a redesign and lasted until 2013, when it was succeeded by the ninth phase.

The eighth generation of the popular Honda car landed here in 2008 in two trim levels, each with its own engine. One of them was the then-novel V6, which we will delve deeper into shortly and which equipped the top-of-the-line EX option.

The entry-level LX configuration maintained the 2.0, but with increased power. The cheaper variant was discontinued in early 2011. In that same year, the Honda Accord underwent a redesign. The Honda Accord 3.5 V6 was a direct competitor of ancestors like the Toyota Camry. And with newcomers, like the Ford Fusion, which came from Mexico, and the phenomenon Hyundai Azera, both with much better cost-benefit ratios. This eighth generation of the Honda Accord was sold in Brazil from 2008 to 2023.

Performance Of The Honda Accord 3.5 V6 Impresses For Its Time

In 2008, the eighth generation of the popular Honda car maintained a V6 version but replaced the 3.0 liters with the more rev-happy 3.5 liters. In total, it delivers 278 hp at 6,200 RPM and a maximum torque of 34.6 kgfm at 5,000 RPM. The engine shines in the mid-large sedan.

The responses to the accelerator pedal are more sensitive and agile, and the take-offs somewhat resemble (discreetly) those of a German car. In reviews conducted by the media at the time, the Honda Accord 3.5 V6 completed the 0 to 100 km/h in under 7 seconds.

One of the innovations of the Honda Accord 3.5 V6 was the VCM2, short for Variable Cylinder Management, which is a system that identifies the “driver’s demand.” Depending on the pressure on the pedal, the speed, and the RPMs, the VCM can disable cylinders.

This means that the sedan’s engine operates with three, four, or all cylinders, all aimed at improving fuel economy. Still, the urban gasoline consumption is around 8 km/l and can reach 12.3 km/l on the highway.

What To Note When Considering The Honda Car?

Comfort is a major highlight of the Honda Accord 3.5 V6, which has a length of 4.93 meters from bumper to bumper – 12 cm longer. The brand also stretched the wheelbase to 2.80 m. This results in a very pleasant and spacious area for the legs, shoulders, and knees of all five occupants.

Despite all these attractions, it’s important to be attentive, as the most common complaints regarding the Honda Accord 3.5 V6 are primarily related to engine performance issues and stuttering, often attributed to problems in the injection system.

There are also reports of premature wear on the timing belt and issues with the steering box. This phase of the Honda Accord launched in 2008 only had one recall for the airbag replacement amid the massive recall for the Takata deadly airbags, which involved units produced until 2012.
