Municipal administration faces critical scenario after intense storms hit several urban regions, causing structural collapse and emergency mobilization of federal support to contain damage and rescue residents
The heavy rains that hit the municipality of Parnamirim in recent days have caused a scenario of urban chaos and emergency mobilization of local authorities. Given the severity of the situation, Mayor Professora Nilda declared a state of emergency and requested support from the Armed Forces to address the impacts caused by the storms.
The information was reported by Tribuna do Norte, which highlighted the worsening conditions in several neighborhoods after intense rains recorded between Thursday and Friday. In a video posted on social media, the mayor detailed the damage and reinforced the administration’s commitment to acting quickly to contain the losses.
Severe flooding and structural failures expose urban fragility
The high volume of rainfall exposed vulnerabilities in the city’s infrastructure. Several regions faced severe flooding, in addition to the overflowing of retention ponds and critical failures in the drainage system. As a consequence, residents faced significant disruptions, including mobility difficulties, health risks, and material damages.
