New Brazilian Pickup Expected for 2027: New Toyota Pickup Announced to Compete with Fiat Toro and Others, Delivering Robustness, Technology, and Performance, check it out!
The Toyota announced plans to expand its presence in the mid-size pickup segment in the Brazilian market. During an event with dealers, the company revealed the development of a new pickup based on the EPU concept, presented at the Tokyo Motor Show in 2023. This model, set to launch in 2027, will be produced at the factory in Sorocaba (SP) and will directly compete with vehicles such as Fiat Toro, Renault Oroch, and Ram Rampage. The new pickup will use the TNGA-C platform, shared with the Corolla, and will feature a plug-in flex hybrid engine, aligning with the brand’s electrification strategy. With dimensions similar to its competitors, the model aims to offer an innovative and sustainable option in the market.
New Brazilian Pickup Will Be Approximately 5 Meters Long
The new Toyota pickup will be part of another variation of the Corolla, as it will be based on the same Toyota New Global Architecture (TNGA), used by the Corolla and Corolla Cross, respectively the sedan and its SUV version. Unlike the well-known Hilux, the new Brazilian pickup will feature a unibody structure and is expected to be approximately 5 meters long, while its wheelbase will be around 3 meters.
As for the design, expectations are that the model will be quite different from what we are used to, considering that the Corolla and Corolla Cross, despite having the same base, present very distinct design proposals.

With the launch expected in 2027, according to data gathered by Mobiauto from dealers, the new Toyota pickup will make its debut in the national market in the same year the second phase of Proconve L8 begins, which will be even stricter with limits on pollutant gas emissions.
New Brazilian Pickup May Deliver up to 306 Hp of Power
There is currently no official data from the brand, but it is expected that the engine of the new Toyota pickup will be hybrid and similar to that of the RAV4 utility vehicle. In this case, it involves a 2.5 aspirated flex engine paired with two electric motors, which together can deliver up to 306 hp of power.
Together with the new Yaris Cross, expected for this year, the new Brazilian pickup based on the Corolla is part of Toyota’s investment of over R$ 12 billion in Brazil. When it launches in two years, this Japanese brand novelty promises to impact the national pickup market based on passenger cars, especially against Fiat, Ram Rampage, and Toro, along with Volkswagen’s upcoming pickup, called Udara/Tarok.
It is worth mentioning that currently, the hybrid pickups available in the national market are the Ford Maverick Hybrid and BYD Shark. However, in two years, the new Toyota pickup will still have to face Renault Niágara, GWM Poer, VW Tarok, and potential electrified versions of Fiat Toro and Ram Rampage.
There Is a Possibility of 4×4 Traction
Another option for the new Brazilian pickup’s engine is the 2.0 hybrid flex from the new generation of the Prius. This would allow even the Toyota Corolla and Corolla Cross to be more powerful. Thus, the Corolla and Corolla Cross will swap the current 1.8 HEV flex setup of 122 hp for a 2.0 HEV flex with about 150 hp.
Meanwhile, the new Toyota pickup could receive a 2.0 PHEV flex with around 220 hp with the possibility of being a 4×4 drivetrain, along with a 2.5 PHEV that will equip the more expensive versions of the pickup, always 4×4.
The interesting aspect of the PHEV Flex setups is that they will allow the hybrid pickup to have 4×4 traction without relying on a driveshaft crossing the vehicle. The GWM hybrid pickup, which will also be produced in Brazil, and the BYD Shark have a similar mechanical configuration.
