Innovation in Solar Plant Management
MTR-TECSCI, a division of automation and artificial intelligence of MTR Solar, is transforming the management of solar plants with its innovative “AI-Based Ground Plant Management Platform.” This technology was recently implemented at the Avelar Plant in Rio de Janeiro, owned by Usinas Brasil Solar (BRS). The promise is a revolution in operational efficiency, with an expected operational savings of at least 10%.
The platform consolidates the control of various equipment, each with its own protocols and monitoring systems, into a single system. This facilitates the simultaneous and effective management of the plant’s devices. Additionally, the platform provides a comprehensive and intuitive view of the main analysis points of the plant. The system allows for remote monitoring, enabling professionals to manage multiple plants simultaneously from anywhere.
Energy and Economic Efficiency
Since August 2023, the Avelar Plant has been contributing to the generation of clean and renewable energy. With an investment of R$ 12 million, the plant has 2,560 modules and a capacity of 1382.40 kWp, generating an average of 169,760 kWh per month. In addition to promoting sustainability, the plant represents a diversity of investors, including condominiums and companies from different sectors.

Virginia engineers transform 100,000 tons of demolished concrete from the Hampton Roads bridge into artificial reefs in the Chesapeake Bay, turning the debris from a mega-construction project into marine shelter while the old structure was still being dismantled.
MTR Solar, responsible for the development of the Ground Plant Management Platform, is one of the largest manufacturers and distributors of equipment for solar plants in Brazil. By November 2023, the company surpassed 1.3GW in solar equipment sold, reflecting a growth of 45% compared to the previous year.
Artificial Intelligence as an Ally
The MTR-TECSCI Plant Management Platform utilizes artificial intelligence to enhance energy generation, quickly identifying failures and guiding the operations and maintenance team for corrective actions. Rafael D’Angelo, director of BRS, emphasizes the tool’s importance in the efficient management of plants, improving performance, maintenance, and operational efficiency. The platform also offers advanced features, such as remote monitoring with real-time alerts.
The application of AI in managing ground plants is a crucial strategy to enhance the efficiency, safety, and sustainability of operations. Eduardo Aguiar, director of MTR-TECSCI, highlights AI’s ability to continuously monitor the performance of plant components, identifying abnormal operations and sending immediate notifications.
Conclusion
The integration of big data and artificial intelligence in ground plants offers more efficient, secure, and sustainable management, resulting in cost reduction and maximization of energy efficiency. The Management Platform from MTR-TECSCI promises to consolidate all these advantages, providing a complete and unique solution for managing solar plants. The expectation is that the new system will be operational at the Avelar Plant by early December 2023, with plans to expand to other regions of Brazil and Latin America.
