The Honda City Hatch Touring 2022 features a 1.5 engine with 126 hp, CVT transmission, Honda Sensing package, and fuel consumption of up to 17.4 km/l, standing out among used automatic hatches.

The segment of compact automatic hatches is dominated by models like Volkswagen Polo, Chevrolet Onix, and Hyundai HB20. However, there is a competitor that takes a different path: instead of betting on a 1.0 turbo three-cylinder engine, the Honda City Hatch Touring 2022 uses a naturally aspirated 1.5 four-cylinder engine with direct injection, combined with a CVT transmission and a safety package that places it among the most complete models in the category.

According to tests by Quatro Rodas, the model recorded 13 km/l in the city and 17.4 km/l on the highway with gasoline, figures that draw attention for a hatch equipped with a 1.5 engine with 126 hp.

1.5 four-cylinder engine delivers 126 hp and prioritizes smoothness

Honda chose a different solution from most competitors. The City Hatch Touring uses a 1.5 DOHC i-VTEC flex engine with direct injection, capable of delivering 126 hp at 6,200 rpm and up to 15.8 kgfm of torque with ethanol.

The set works with a CVT transmission, which simulates seven gears through paddle shifts behind the steering wheel. According to Quatro Rodas, this new engine shares only the displacement with the old 1.5 engine, being completely redesigned, with hydraulic tappets, dual variable camshaft, and lighter components.

Fuel consumption surpasses many 1.0 turbo hatches on the highway

One of the most praised points in the tests was energy efficiency. Quatro Rodas measured 13 km/l in urban use and 17.4 km/l on the highway using gasoline.

Motor1 Brasil recorded superior results of 12 km/l in the city and 15.5 km/l on the highway, highlighting that the set became more economical even without resorting to a turbocharger.

Honda Sensing Package is one of the highlights of the Touring version

The Touring version is the most complete in the lineup. It features the Honda Sensing package, consisting of:

  • Autonomous emergency braking;
  • Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC);
  • Lane keeping assist;
  • Automatic high beams.

Additionally, the model offers:

  • Six airbags;
  • Full LED headlights;
  • Automatic digital air conditioning;
  • 8-inch multimedia center with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay wireless;
  • Keyless entry with push-button start;
  • Front and rear parking sensors;
  • LaneWatch, a system that enhances the blind spot view through the right mirror.

Interior space surprises despite the hatch body

Although it is a compact hatch, the City uses the same platform as the sedan.

The wheelbase of 2.60 meters ensures good space for rear occupants. The trunk offers 268 liters, smaller than the sedan’s, but sufficient for everyday use.

The suspension has been calibrated to prioritize comfort, a traditional characteristic of Honda models.

Performance prioritizes balance over sportiness

Those expecting typical turbo hatch accelerations might notice a difference. In Quatro Rodas tests, the City Touring accelerated from 0 to 100 km/h in about 10.5 seconds, showing competitive performance for a naturally aspirated model.

The focus, however, is on smooth operation, consistent acceleration, and low consumption, characteristics reinforced by the CVT transmission.

Reliability remains one of the greatest qualities

Another factor frequently associated with the City is Honda’s reputation. The four-cylinder naturally aspirated engine does without a turbocharger and uses a relatively simple mechanical architecture compared to some turbo competitors.

This, combined with the brand’s extensive dealership network and positive reliability history, makes the City a highly sought-after option in the used car market.

Is it worth buying a used Honda City Hatch Touring?

For those looking for a modern, economical, and well-equipped automatic hatch, the 2022 Honda City Hatch Touring offers a combination that’s hard to find in the category.

The model combines an efficient 1.5 naturally aspirated engine, competitive consumption, good interior space, and an advanced driver assistance package, making it a solid alternative for those who prioritize comfort, safety, and reliability over purely sporty performance.
