The Brazilian Embassy in the British capital has opened a selection process to fill a temporary position for an administrative assistant, offering an initial salary of over R$ 16,000. The position is for a temporary administrative assistant, who will work directly in the Ambassador’s Office during a staff member’s maternity leave.

Among the main responsibilities are: managing the Mission Chief’s calendar, handling physical and electronic correspondence, and assisting in the preparation of official events, both at the Embassy and at the official residence.

In addition, the appointee will be responsible for drafting meeting minutes, reports, official documents, and newsletters, as well as organizing and filing administrative records.

Salary and Benefits

According to the selection announcement, the initial gross monthly salary is £2,435, which equals over R$ 16,000. After the contract comes into effect, the Embassy will deduct contributions for National Insurance and other relevant taxes. However, it is the employee’s responsibility to ensure the payment of any income tax owed to the British government.

Application Process for the Position in London

To apply for the position, interested parties must send scanned copies of the required documents to the email: info.london@itamaraty.gov.br (maximum of 5MB), with the subject “Selection Process 06/2024 – application” followed by the candidate’s name. Applications are open from June 19 to July 3, 2024. The required documents include:

  • Valid identification document;
  • Proof of right to work and reside in the United Kingdom;
  • Completed and signed application form;
  • Signed statements about the nature of employment and absence of ties to the Brazilian public service;
  • Updated resume;
  • Minimum education certificate (high school);
  • Copy of CPF or registration with Her Majesty’s Revenue and Customs (HMRC).

Brazilian candidates must include the voting compliance registration certificate, service military exemption or enlistment certificate (for men under 45 years old), and proof of proficiency in Microsoft Office 365. Optional documents such as cover letters and reference letters may also be submitted.

Details of the Work Regime

The selection process does not constitute a public competition, and the role of the administrative assistant is not a public function. The employment contract is temporary, valid to cover maternity leave, but may be extended. There is a probationary period of six months, which may be extended by an additional three months. The workweek is 40 hours, with no pay for overtime, but with the right to compensatory time off.

The selection process will be divided into three stages: resume analysis, written test in Portuguese and English, and interview in both languages.
