The Multinational Titanium America – Tiasa Will Open a New Titanium Dioxide Pigment Factory in the Camaçari Industrial Park, Bahia

Titanium America – Tiasa will open a new chemical unit in the Camaçari Industrial Park, Bahia. The new factory will have an investment of R$ 250 million and can generate up to one thousand jobs, including those in construction, directly or indirectly. With the establishment of the company in the state, the idea is to enable Brazil to reduce its dependence on China and the United States for the purchase of titanium dioxide pigments.

According to Eduardo Tavares, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Tiasa, R$ 100 million was invested in the development of technology and pilot plants for the project that will be built in Bahia.

Eduardo states that “This titanium dioxide project is innovative, developed over the last 10 years, and is important for the country, which is a product importer. Two-thirds of Brazilian consumption is supplied by China and the United States, and Brazil could become less dependent on imported products, benefiting the trade balance, creating jobs, and serving the local industry. The technology, developed by national technicians, is environmentally friendly and sustainable.”

According to the company, the factory is expected to start operations at the end of 2022. In the first phase, the integrated production capacity of titanium pigments and iron oxide will reach 38,000 tons per year, with a forecast of reaching 170,000 tons after each phase of the project is implemented.

In addition to titanium dioxide pigments used for various purposes, such as real estate paints, glass and plastic production, and as a base for solar protection, there is a second byproduct, synthetic hematite, which is used in the steel industry.
