EDP Energias do Brasil announced on Tuesday, May 28, the agreement with CEE Power and Brafer for the acquisition of Litoral Sul Transmissora de Energia, which has transmission lines in Santa Catarina and Rio Grande do Sul. The deal involves a total investment of R$ 407 million, comprising a lot consisting of two substations and 142 kilometers of line. The forecast is to generate 500 jobs for the works in both states.
“Lot Q consists of two substations and 142 kilometers of transmission lines, connecting the states of Santa Catarina and Rio Grande do Sul, covering 12 municipalities in Santa Catarina and 10 cities in Rio Grande do Sul, from Tubarão in Santa Catarina to Torres in Rio Grande do Sul. According to the company, the purchase occurred in the so-called secondary energy market and needs approval from the National Agency of Electric Energy (Aneel). It is part of the power company’s strategy to strengthen its position in the transmission segment, accumulating an investment of R$ 3.5 billion already contracted for nearly 1,500 kilometers of length and six substations.
— The operation has good levels of profitability, which meets the Company’s premises for creating value for our shareholders. Moreover, Lot Q has great synergy with Lot 21, another transmission project we are building in Santa Catarina, where we are also the largest shareholders of Celesc — emphasizes Miguel Setas, president of EDP in Brazil.
Lot Q is divided into two sections, with the possibility of entering operation on different dates. The first, in Santa Catarina, already has an installation license and is in the earthworks phase.
The second section, between Santa Catarina and Rio Grande do Sul, is in the environmental licensing phase with the Brazilian Institute of Environment (Ibama) and the State Foundation for Environmental Protection (FEPAM), representing 58% of the lot.
Other Investments
Recently, the company Sterlite Power, with its global headquarters in India, signed the concession contract for the Pampa project in Rio Grande do Sul. It refers to Lot 13, won in the last transmission auction by the National Agency of Electric Energy (Aneel). The lot provides for the construction of three energy transmission lines, totaling 316 kilometers in length and two substations. The investment is R$ 777.8 million.
The Indian company took on projects that dragged on for years in the hands of Eletrosul. After that, there were more years of negotiation with the Chinese Shanghai Electric, which did not succeed. The structure is essential to ensure the transport of energy produced in Rio Grande do Sul, which due to a lack of transmission lines and substations had projects restricted from participating in Federal Government auctions.
