The State of São Paulo is reviving the golden age of train travel with the largest rail tourism program in Brazil. With billion-dollar investments and the promise of 23 interconnected circuits, the project promises to transform the tourism sector and boost the economy of São Paulo.
Get ready for a journey to the past with destination to the future! The State of São Paulo is reviving a forgotten tradition and promises to transform the tourist experience through rails.
The return of tourist rail lines is about to redefine the São Paulo tourism scene, promising nostalgia, development and new adventures. But what is behind this audacious project?
Historic railway expansion
- Lots of tracks, but… Why are trains so rare in Brazil these days?
- Uber drivers may be affected by PIX monitoring and “silent” income tax!
- How the Federal Revenue Service will interpret transactions via PIX for “your mother” or other family members without falling into the income tax net
- THE PIX LION WILL BE RELENTLESS! Tax evasion can make you fall into the “hell” of the Federal Revenue Service called Malha Fina.
The Government of the State of São Paulo, through the Secretariat of Tourism and Travel (Setur-SP), took a decisive step by launching, on November 6, the 'Railway Tourism Program'.
The initiative aims to revitalize and expand tourist rail circuits, promoting efficient integration between different modes of transport.
The ambitious project has a 10-year horizon and aims to create the largest tourist railway network in Brazil.
The plan includes up to 23 interconnected railway circuits, generating an estimated economic movement of R$1,8 billion between 2030 and 2039.
Strategic partnerships and multimodal integration
To ensure the success of the program, inter-secretariat partnerships were established.
The integration between railways and highways promises more agile and efficient transportation, connecting tourist spots more easily and offering a complete travel experience.
Furthermore, the program is aligned with the 'SP Nos Trilhos' project, also led by the state government.
Since its launch in May this year, more than 40 railway projects have been announced, totaling an investment of R$194 million.
Participating cities and local investments
A successful example is the city of Casa Branca, which is already preparing to join the program.
The local government promotes meetings and technical visits to raise demands and structure its historic station.
The city is expected to attract more tourists, boosting the trade in souvenirs, handicrafts and regional cuisine.
Other historic cities, such as Campinas and Jundiaí, are also on the list of possible railway tourist destinations.
These regions have centuries-old railway stations, which will be restored to preserve their cultural importance and attract visitors interested in history and architecture.
The program also provides for significant investments to improve infrastructure, such as modernizing stations and building accessible facilities, following federal accessibility standards.
Economic impact and regional development
Railway expansion goes beyond nostalgia and promises concrete benefits for regional development.
The new routes should boost local trade, promote tourism and generate direct and indirect jobs.
The project also encourages sustainable tourism by promoting public transport and reducing carbon emissions.
According to regional economic experts, investments in rail tourism can generate a virtuous cycle of economic growth.
Small local entrepreneurs, such as inn owners, restaurants and artisans, should benefit from the increase in the flow of visitors.
Themed events and railway festivals
The program also includes holding themed events and festivals at the revitalized stations, reinforcing the cultural and tourist appeal of the cities served by the railway lines.
Historical exhibitions, food fairs and night tours are in the initial planning to attract a diverse audience.
Outlook for the future
With long-term investments and an integrated vision of transport and tourism, São Paulo is positioning itself as a reference in the tourist railway segment in Brazil.
The first results should appear in the coming years, with new routes, modernization of stations and the reactivation of historic lines.
History and adventure lovers will have the opportunity to explore unique settings, enjoying comfortable and enchanting trips.
Railways are more than just tracks: they are connections between the past and the future, between cities and people.
Are you ready to embark on this historic and unforgettable journey? Leave your opinion in the comments: which railway destination would you like to see revitalized?
A line connecting Mogi to Baixada Santista passing through Salesópolis would be great.
How not, this will be wonderful and these costs would be due to the mayors of the cities that would benefit from these projects. I think it will be wonderful. Congratulations to our governor Tarciosio, because he is the future president of our Brazil. I support you. Have a great Monday, everyone. Good afternoon.
