The main reported symptoms include oral injuries, painful sensations, burning, gum inflammation, and lip swelling.

Anvisa determined the precautionary ban of all product batches for 90 days, or until its safety is confirmed.
Colgate’s Response
In response to Anvisa’s decision, Colgate filed an appeal, resulting in the automatic suspension of the ban on Thursday.
The company reaffirms the product’s safety, claiming that the reported adverse effects may result from the sensitivity of some consumers to certain ingredients, such as stannous fluoride, colorants, or flavors.
Colgate has committed to collaborating with Anvisa to clarify any doubts regarding the Total Clean Mint toothpaste, reinforcing its commitment to the quality and safety of its products.
What Does This Mean for Consumers?
Despite the suspension of the ban, Anvisa’s recommendation for consumers not to use the product remains in effect.
Those who have already purchased the toothpaste should check the batch number on the secondary packaging (cardboard carton) to confirm if the product is subject to the ban.
If they only have the tube, they should check for the presence of the substance “stannous fluoride” in the composition.
Given the uncertainty, caution is essential. Consumers experiencing any of the mentioned adverse symptoms should seek medical guidance and report the occurrence to Anvisa.
