Fokker 100, Aircraft That Marked The History Of Latam And Became Known For Accidents In Brazil, Is For Sale At An Unbelievably Low Price.

Fokker 100 For Sale! This aircraft model played a fundamental role in the growth of the airline, allowing Latam to become a giant in the aviation sector. However, over the years, the Fokker 100 also became known for some accidents that raised concern and fear among passengers and the public.

Although it is an aircraft used safely in various parts of the world, its negative reputation solidified in Brazil. Now, a Fokker 100 is available for sale at a price equivalent to that of a compact SUV.

Fokker 100 Can Be Bought For About R$ 150 Thousand

Montenegro Airlines, which operated several units of the Fokker 100, went bankrupt and put its aircraft up for sale. One of the last available models is the Fokker 100, priced at 23,900 euros.

This amount translates to approximately R$ 142 thousand, which is close to the price of a Volkswagen Nivus or a Fiat Pulse, making the offer quite unusual and attractive in the aviation sector. A Fokker 100 for this price is a rare opportunity, considering that most commercial airplanes cost tens of millions of dollars or euros.

Those interested in acquiring this Fokker 100 have until the 24th to formalize their bid.

History Of The Fokker 100 Aircraft In Latam And Its Accidents

The history of the Fokker 100 in Brazil began in 1990, when Tam received its first unit of the aircraft. The Fokker 100 was essential for the company’s expansion, which managed to operate up to 51 of these aircraft over the years.

With the Fokker 100, Latam was able to increase its presence in the market and solidify itself as one of the main airlines in the country. However, the same Fokker 100 that helped Latam grow also became associated with accidents, which led to a negative reputation for the model.

One of the most serious accidents occurred on October 31, 1996, when a Fokker 100 from Latam crashed shortly after takeoff at Congonhas Airport in São Paulo.

The accident resulted in the deaths of 99 people, which had a profound impact on public perception of the Fokker 100.

Other minor incidents were also recorded over the years, leading many to consider the Fokker 100 a dangerous aircraft in Brazil.

In response to these issues, Latam began to replace its fleet of Fokker 100s with more modern models, such as the Airbus A320.

The New Name And International Use Of The Aircraft

After the departure of the Fokker 100 from Latam’s fleet, some units were acquired by OceanAir, which later became Avianca Brazil. To avoid public rejection of the Fokker 100, the company rebranded the model as MK-28.

Although the name changed, the MK-28 was actually the same Fokker 100 that had already been used by Latam.

OceanAir/Avianca Brazil operated the Fokker 100 between 2005 and 2015, but eventually decided to focus its operations on Airbus aircraft.

Although the Fokker 100 became a feared aircraft in Brazil due to its accidents, it still succeeded in the international market, especially on short and medium-haul routes.

The model is recognized for its low operating cost and safety in flights, making it a popular choice among airlines in other countries. Now, even with its controversial reputation in Brazil, the Fokker 100 is for sale at an affordable price, offering a unique opportunity for those who overlook its negative fame.

With all this information, it is clear that the Fokker 100, although it has faced challenges and a complicated reputation in Brazil, remains an important part of Latam’s history.

The aircraft, which can be acquired for a very low price, still represents an interesting opportunity for aviation enthusiasts.

Potential buyers should consider both the history and the characteristics of the Fokker 100 before making a decision.
