Haid Group Aims at Mato Grosso for US$ 80 Million Investment in Animal Feed Unit Based on Cotton Seed
Brazil is on the radar of a new and substantial Chinese investment. The Haid Group, one of the largest global companies in animal feed production, is considering the establishment of a factory focused on processing cotton seed in the state of Mato Grosso, with an estimated investment of over US$ 80 million. The new industrial plant is expected to create around 150 direct jobs, reinforcing the international presence of the Asian conglomerate and enhancing the integration between the agribusiness sector in Mato Grosso and the animal nutrition industry.
Haid Group Plans to Expand Operations to Brazil with Focus on Agribusiness
The Haid Group already operates more than 600 subsidiaries in Asia, Africa, and South America, including units in China, Vietnam, Indonesia, India, Egypt, and Ecuador. With the advancement of the project in Brazil, the company reinforces its strategy of internationalization and engagement with major centers of raw material production.
Haid’s senior director, Lee Yong Qiong, met with the governor of Mato Grosso, Mauro Mendes, on Monday (28), at the Palácio Paiaguás, accompanied by the Secretary of Economic Development, César Miranda. This was the third visit by the Chinese delegation to the state since negotiations began, focusing on the determination of the new plant’s location.

Haid Group Factory Should Use Cotton Seed as the Basis for Animal Feed
The factory project outlines the use of cotton seed as the main input for animal feed production, taking advantage of the high availability of the product in Mato Grosso, which is the largest cotton producer in Brazil. The raw material will be processed for nutritional formulations targeting cattle, poultry, pigs, and fish — sectors that are also in full expansion in the state.
According to Lee Yong Qiong, “the quality and abundance of Mato Grosso’s cotton seed were crucial for the group’s decision. The business environment in the state is favorable, and we are confident in the success of the operation.”
The executive also invited the governor to visit Haid’s headquarters in China as part of the institutional strengthening process.
Mato Grosso Advances as an Industrial Hub for Agribusiness
For Governor Mauro Mendes, the potential installation of Haid Group in Mato Grosso confirms the state as the “epicenter of animal and plant protein transformation in Brazil.” He emphasized that the project is in an advanced stage of definition, and the decision regarding the city that will host the factory will be announced in May. After the decision is made, the expected timeline for the start of operations is up to 20 months.
“Haid Group’s investment is strategic, not only because it generates jobs and boosts the regional economy, but also because it consolidates Mato Grosso as a destination for agroeconomic industries. We are attracting serious companies with a long-term vision that add value to what we already produce on a large scale,” stated Mendes.
Production of Cotton Seed and Animal Protein Drives the State’s Choice
Mato Grosso is the largest national producer of cotton and also leads the growth of animal protein production in Brazil, excelling in pig farming, poultry farming, fish farming, and cattle ranching. These factors make the state particularly attractive for companies like Haid, which depend on these production chains to develop their operations.
According to Secretary César Miranda, “we have logistics in full expansion, with nearly 5,000 km of new asphalt, a railroad under construction, competitive tax incentives, and plentiful raw materials. Haid finds here all the elements it needs to grow. Our industry is the one that is advancing the most proportionally in the country.”
