New National Version of the Electric Hatch Promises to Expand Access to Sustainable Mobility in Brazil, Focusing on Professional Drivers and People with Disabilities, and Marks the Beginning of BYD’s Production in Camaçari (BA).
The BYD Dolphin Mini national now offers a new configuration aimed at direct sales to taxi drivers, fleet operators, and people with disabilities (PCD).
The entry-level version will have a suggested public price of R$ 118,990, with the possibility of dropping below R$ 100,000 after applying the exemptions provided by law for each category, according to the manufacturer and recent market communications.
The announcement comes at the same time that the manufacturer inaugurates its plant in Camaçari (BA), marking an investment of R$ 5.5 billion in the country.

Access Version Targets Direct Sales with Exemptions
The new Dolphin Mini configuration, referred to in the press material as GL, was designed for the direct sale modality and relies on tax exemptions applicable to PCD and taxi professionals, allowing for a significant reduction in the final price.
In some scenarios, taxi drivers may pay R$ 98,590 and PCD less than R$ 100,000, figures reported in specialized media that followed the debut of the model assembled in Brazil.
The BYD will also present commercial and equipment details of the car in the coming weeks.
Smaller Battery to Reduce Costs; Official Range Falls

To reach the new price level, the hatch adopts a smaller battery of 30.08 kWh, instead of the 38 kWh set used in the already known urban configuration.
As a result, the declared range by Inmetro drops from 280 km to 250 km.
The lineup continues with a front electric motor of 75 hp and 13.8 kgfm of torque, coupled to a one-speed automatic transmission.
The factory has not detailed, for now, whether the equipment package of the GL will be more streamlined than that of the other versions, information that should be disclosed along with the complete technical specifications of the national model.
National Production Begins in Camaçari
The inauguration of the Camaçari factory marks the beginning of local assembly of electric and hybrid vehicles by BYD.
The ceremony, held on October 9, 2025, was attended by President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, Vice President Geraldo Alckmin, state authorities, and company executives.
The plant begins operations with the Dolphin Mini, the hybrid SUV Song Pro, and the King sedan, assembled under the CKD and SKD regimes.
On that occasion, the brand also showcased the new Song Pro with a flex plug-in hybrid system and updated visuals, with national production planned only for 2026.
Capacity and Plans for the Bahia Unit
According to the federal government and the company itself, the Bahia unit begins with an annual capacity of 150,000 vehicles in the first phase, with an expansion to 300,000 in a subsequent stage.
The industrial planning also aims to transform Camaçari into a hub for South America, with the possibility of expanding the production scope throughout the first year of operation.
In recent statements, BYD executives stated that the lineup can assemble up to eight different models in the initial period, including products not yet launched in the Brazilian market.
Sales Leadership Among Electrified Vehicles
Since its launch in the country, the Dolphin Mini has led among electrified vehicles.
From January to September 2025, the hatch totaled almost 23,000 units, according to media reports based on the Fenabrave panel.
In September, the subcompact maintained its pace and ranked among the most registered electric vehicles of the month, reinforcing the model’s impact on the popularization of BEVs in Brazil.
The brand also maintains a high share of electrified vehicle sales thanks to its portfolio of plug-in hybrids and the expansion of the network.

Technical Items Maintain Urban Focus
Although the smaller battery reduces the range in the GL, the mechanical set remains geared toward everyday use.
The 75 hp motor delivers immediate torque of 13.8 kgfm, with a top speed of 130 km/h and acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h in 14.9 seconds, figures already tested in national evaluations and present in the technical data sheet of the model.
For charging, the Dolphin Mini accepts AC charging of 6.6 kW and DC up to 40 kW, allowing replenishing 30% to 80% in about 30 minutes during fast charging, according to parameters disclosed for the version with a 38 kWh battery.
The Cheapest Among Sold Electrics
With the public price at R$ 118,990 and possible reductions in the direct sales modality, the Dolphin Mini establishes itself as the cheapest electric vehicle for sale in Brazil.
In conventional retail, the hatch was being offered starting at R$ 119,990, a price that already placed it below direct rivals in the entry segment of BEVs.
The arrival of the national access version expands this advantage and tends to increase the volume of registrations as local assembly gains traction.
Next Steps for BYD in the Country
With the Bahia plant operating and the GL positioned for purchases with exemptions, BYD’s strategy aims to expand its presence in the market and accelerate the adoption of electrics and hybrids.
The launch calendar includes product evolutions already in line and the introduction of new models throughout the first year of manufacturing activity.
The company also plans to attract suppliers to the surrounding area of the factory, in order to gradually verticalize production and reduce external dependencies.
