The route starts at the intersection of PI-247, in Sebastião Leal, continues to PI-262, in Serra do Quilombo, in Bom Jesus, crossing seven municipalities that are strategic for agricultural production.
Direct beneficiaries include Sebastião Leal, Uruçuí, Manoel Emídio, Alvorada do Gurguéia, Palmeira do Piauí, Currais, and Bom Jesus, enhancing regional integration and reducing transportation costs.
Logistical Infrastructure Boosts Production and Attracts New Enterprises
According to DER-PI’s director-general, Leonardo Sobral, Transcerrados is the main route for the state’s agricultural production and supports new productive investments in the region.
“Ethanol plant, slaughterhouse, and poultry farm. The establishment of these enterprises confirms that planned investments generate employability, economic, and social development,” said Leonardo Sobral, director-general of the DER.
The region traversed by the highway is a major soybean producer, with projections of 5.7 million tons of grains in 2025, generating more than R$ 13 billion in the Piauí economy.
Industrial Projects Reinforce Economic Impact of Transcerrados
Among the projects attracted by the logistical improvement logistics is the corn ethanol plant of Grupo Brasbio Progresso, in Uruçuí, with estimated private investments of R$ 1.18 billion.
Also in Uruçuí, the poultry slaughterhouse of Grupo Nutriza expects an investment of R$ 2.1 billion, expanding the productive chain, generating direct jobs, and strengthening the regional agricultural sector.
These investments, associated with the completion of Transcerrados by 2026, consolidate the highway as a structural axis for logistical, productive, and commercial development in Southern Piauí.
