BNDES Releases R$ 390 Million for WEG Exports to Chile. Brazilian Equipment Will Equip Substations of Alupar in Antofagasta and Atacama, Strengthening the Power Grid
The National Bank for Economic and Social Development (BNDES) approved financing of US$ 71.4 million, equivalent to about R$ 390 million, to support the export of equipment from WEG S.A. to Chile.
The investment is linked to a new power transmission line operated by Alupar, through its subsidiary in the country.
The Brazilian multinational WEG, known for its electro-electronic solutions, will supply power transformers, synchronous compensators, and auxiliary systems for two substations installed in the provinces of Antofagasta and Atacama.

The operation will be under the responsibility of Sincro Energía del Desierto (SED), Alupar’s Chilean subsidiary, which will manage the infrastructure.

International Grant and Regional Impact
The grant was won by Alupar in an international bidding held in 2024. Under the contract, the substations Ana María and Illapa will be operated by the Brazilian company for 25 years, reinforcing the group’s presence in the South American energy market.
In a statement, BNDES highlighted that the project will play a strategic role: “SED will contribute to strengthening the electrical transmission infrastructure in Chile, ensuring greater reliability in energy supply in a region essential for the expansion of renewable sources”, the bank stated.
Financing Mechanism
The credit was released by the BNDES Exim Post-shipment line, designed to finance Brazilian exports through operations with importer clients abroad. In this case, the importer is Alupar’s own Chilean subsidiary.
The initiative reinforces the bank’s strategy to stimulate the national industry and expand the involvement of Brazilian companies in the international market, while ensuring the strengthening of energy projects in Latin America.
