The Money for the Comperj Works Is Already in Petrobras’ Account and Federal Deputy Said That the Works Will Be Completed by the End of 2017 Officially

[supsystic-social-sharing id=’1′]Federal Deputy Altineu Côrtes visited Comperj in Itaboraí-RJ Last Week Following a Request from Brasília. He is also a member of the Mines and Energy Commission of the Federal Chamber. According to Cortês, the government has released about US$3.2 billion (equivalent to R$10 billion today) for the project, which has already been deposited in the state-owned company’s account for commencement in 2018. He also assures that at least 6,000 direct jobs will be generated with this injection of net value into the project.

The meeting took place on the 28th with mayors from all localities, Petrobras representatives among others linked to the legislative bodies of these municipalities. Cortês said that the visit aimed to assess the conditions of the work, hear the demands of each involved city, and he expressed that he was quite satisfied and that the effort was worth it.

When asked about the realistic prospects for the start of the works, he said that at the moment the works are at two distinct stages:

Stage 1

This is the release of federal government funds for the commencement of the works, which will process 19 million m³ of gas daily and will represent 21% of all that is produced in Brazil. He adds that this work will be completed by the end of 2017.

Stage 2

This is a proposal from a Chinese multinational, which is providing US$5 billion to Petrobras for investments. This amount is not entirely for Comperj, as it also wants to inject part of this money into the Port of Açú, located in the municipality of São João da Barra-RJ. (Click here to see where it wants to apply the money). But part of this amount that it wants to invest aims to finalize the works of the UPGN, which will further enhance job generation in Itaboraí.

He recalls how colossal it is and what justifies this investment: ” There are 300 km of gas pipelines coming from the Santos Basins in offshore units, with most of it submerged in our seas, which will generate 3 million m³ more than the current main petrochemical hub operating in the country. In other words, these works will take the oil industry to the next level.”

Priority

Altineu Côrtes also stated that he wishes for the labor force to be local, from the municipalities that are part of Conlest, but for that, it is necessary for professionals to seek qualification so that the project can prioritize these people. Source: O São Gonçalo
