Pontifical Catholic University of Paraná (PUC-PR) opened registrations for a full scholarship program aimed at promoting social inclusion and expanding access to higher education with free courses. This year, the institution is offering more than 40 100% free scholarships divided into three specific notices, aimed at black and brown people, refugees and residents of Vila Torres, in Curitiba.
This initiative reflects the university's commitment to strengthening vulnerable communities and creating opportunities for groups that face historical barriers to accessing quality education.
Scholarships for black and brown people
The most comprehensive program announcement offers 30 exclusive bags for residents of Curitiba and the metropolitan region who identify as black (black or brown). To participate in the free courses, the candidate must meet criteria such as:
- Unicamp opens registration for 13 free online courses, with certificate, covering different areas of knowledge!
- Senar offers a free course on Agricultural Tractor Operation and Maintenance, with a guaranteed certificate!
- Secretariat offers 855 free places on qualification courses, from Web Development to Introduction to the Games Industry!
- With the great shortage of qualified professionals in the Education area, Senac's online courses are an excellent opportunity to boost your resume without leaving home
- Per capita family income of up to 1,5 minimum wages;
- Age up to 35 years completed in 2024;
- Complete high school;
- Absence of a higher education diploma.
The selection process includes three stages: an objective in-person test, document analysis and a hetero-identification procedure. free registrations must be made until December 2nd 2024, and the test will be held on January 11, 2025, at 13 pm, at the Curitiba Campus.
Refugee scholarships for free courses
The PUC-PR Refugee and Humanitarian Visa Holders Reception Program offers 11 vacancies, distributed among the campuses of Curitiba, Londrina and Toledo. The opportunities include free courses such as Design, Nursing, Law, Administration, Psychology and others.
The selection process for refugees consists of an eliminatory essay test and document analysis. Candidates must prove refugee status recognized by Conare or a humanitarian visa, in addition to presenting proof of completion of high school.
As Applications can be submitted until January 8, 2025 , with details of the scheduled test sent by email the day before it takes place.
Grants for residents of Vila Torres
PUC-PR has also reserved five scholarships for free courses for residents of the Vila Torres community in Curitiba. Candidates must live in the area defined in the notice, be up to 29 years old, have a per capita family income of up to 1,5 minimum wages, have completed high school and do not have a college degree.
In addition to the full exemption from tuition fees, beneficiaries receive a monthly financial aid of R$400,00, intended to cover costs related to remaining in the undergraduate course. The selection test will take place on January 11, 2025, and the applications can be submitted until December 2, 2024 .

I am totally against refugees, because they end up taking places away from Brazilians. We need to look at the Brazilian people first, if there are any places left, then we can include refugees.
I am in favor of quota policies for black, brown and refugee people, as I recognize their importance in promoting equity. However, I consider it unfair to impose age limits on access to higher education. I am 41 years old, I do not have a college degree and I would very much like to have the opportunity to return to the classroom.
