Elon Musk Confirms Creation of Macrohard, AI Startup That Promises to Compete with Microsoft and Transform the Software Market.
Elon Musk, CEO of Tesla, confirmed on Friday the creation of Macrohard. The new company emerges to directly compete with Microsoft in the field of AI-based software.
In a post on X, Musk stated: “It’s an ironic name, but the project is very real!” He also explained that, since companies like Microsoft do not produce physical hardware, it would be possible to simulate their entire operation with AI.
Patent Registration in the U.S.
According to media sources, on August 1st, Musk’s xAI filed a patent application with the United States Patent and Trademark Office.

Among the listed descriptions are software for the artificial production of human speech and text, as well as programs aimed at developing and executing video games using artificial intelligence. These would be the initial services that Macrohard intends to offer.
Previous Signs from Musk
Last month, Musk had already hinted at the ambitions of xAI. He declared that the company would create hundreds of specialized agents in coding and generating or understanding images and videos.
These agents would work together, simulating human interactions within virtual machines until the result reached the desired level. “This is a macro challenge and a tough problem with fierce competition! Can you guess the name of this company?” Musk wrote.
Relationship with Microsoft
In recent years, Musk has maintained a relationship marked by friction with Microsoft and its CEO, Satya Nadella. He even included the company in his lawsuit against OpenAI, accusing the creator of ChatGPT of abandoning its original mission to pursue a purely commercial strategy.
Despite this, in May, when Grok 3 models were launched on the Azure platform, the two executives exchanged views in public.
Dispute Between Grok and Copilot
The rivalry grew with the evolution of AI tools. Musk stated that OpenAI was “eating Microsoft alive,” while promoting the advancements of Grok 4 and announcing the launch of Grok 5 later this year.
On the other hand, Microsoft expanded Copilot’s capabilities in services like GitHub, Windows, and the web, using models developed by OpenAI. Therefore, the entry of Macrohard reinforces the direct competition between Musk and Nadella for space in the artificial intelligence market.
