Electric Pickup Truck Features
With a length of 4.45 meters and a wheelbase of 2.81 meters, the Slate Auto pickup is a compact vehicle that opts for a simplified design.
To keep costs down, the manufacturer decided to forego items such as power windows, multimedia center, alloy wheels, and even color options for the body.
The pickup will be offered in a single configuration but with customization options, allowing owners to transform the model into a five-seater SUV through a kit that will be sold separately.
The company will also offer over 100 customization accessories, giving customers a chance to personalize their pickups according to their preferences.
This customization strategy is a smart way to attract consumers looking for a vehicle that fits their lifestyle, allowing them to create a car that meets their specific needs.
Performance and Technical Specifications
The electric pickup from Slate Auto will be equipped with a rear motor delivering 201 hp and torque of 27 mkgf.
Customers will have the option to choose between two battery configurations: the standard one, with 52.7 kWh, which offers a range of 240 km (EPA cycle), and an optional version with 84.3 kWh, which extends the range to 385 km on a single charge.
The lithium-ion batteries will be supplied by South Korea’s SK On.
The charging time for the batteries will be fast, with the company stating that it is possible to charge from 20% to 80% in about 30 minutes, using a charging station of up to 120 kW.
With a total weight of 1,635 kg, the pickup will have a payload capacity of 633 kg and towing capability of 454 kg.
Even in its basic version, the vehicle will feature safety elements including cruise control, power locks, and front collision alert with emergency braking.
These features make the pickup not only an affordable option but also safe and reliable for everyday use.
Comparison With Competitors and The Future of The Electric Market
The launch of Slate Auto comes at a time when the electric car market is rapidly expanding.
Companies like Tesla, Rivian, and Lucid Motors have dominated the scene, but Slate Auto’s proposal offers an interesting alternative for consumers seeking a more affordable electric vehicle.
The strategy of eliminating what is considered unnecessary items may attract a new customer base that does not feel comfortable spending large amounts on luxury electric vehicles.
Additionally, Slate Auto’s commitment to customization may be a significant differentiator, especially among younger consumers who value individuality in their vehicles.
The market for electric pickups is growing, and Slate Auto may position itself as a viable option for those looking for a balance between price and features.
Reservations and Direct Sales
Slate Auto has already begun accepting reservations for the electric pickup.
Interested parties can secure their unit with a US$ 50 refundable payment.
According to the manufacturer, the first customers will have the opportunity to test the vehicle in a demonstration phase as early as next year.
Sales will be conducted directly, without dealership intermediaries, following the model adopted by Tesla.
This direct-to-consumer approach not only reduces costs but also allows the company to maintain a closer relationship with its customers.
The Role of Jeff Bezos in Slate Auto
The support of Jeff Bezos, founder of Amazon, brings significant visibility to the new brand Slate Auto.
Known for his innovative and disruptive vision, Bezos can help Slate Auto navigate the challenges of the competitive electric vehicle market.
His involvement may also open doors to strategic partnerships and collaborations that could drive the company’s growth.
The entry of Slate Auto into the electric car market represents a new alternative for consumers looking for sustainable and affordable vehicles, standing out in the competitive automotive sector of the United States.
With the support of Jeff Bezos, the company promises to challenge conventions and offer a viable option for those wishing to embrace electrification in their lives.
