Abandoned for more than 12 years in Wallasea Island, England, the 23-meter classic yacht linked to Frank Sinatra is back in the spotlight after being taken over by a British YouTuber who wants to restore the 1956 vessel with three cabins, a master suite, Detroit engines, and an original mahogany salon.

The 75-foot classic yacht associated with Frank Sinatra will be restored by British YouTuber Billy Pethericks after remaining abandoned for over 12 years in London. The vessel, now called Nostalgia 10, shows deep signs of deterioration but still retains striking features of a past linked to luxury, classic yachting, and the singer’s frequent presence between 1968 and 1974.

Frank Sinatra held a prominent place in American public life and maintained a routine marked by luxury and high-end goods. Among the symbols of this lifestyle was a 23-meter Burger built in 1956, used by him as a retreat for a period of six years.

Over time, the boat ceased to represent the glamour that marked its history and began to bear the marks of a long phase of abandonment. Today, the classic yacht is far from the sophisticated universe that surrounded Sinatra and presents itself as a vessel frozen in time, covered in rust, dust, and leaks.

Billy Pethericks takes on the restoration project of the classic yacht

Billy Pethericks has taken over the vessel with the proposal to carry out a comprehensive restoration and bring life back to the boat that hosted the performer of “Fly Me to the Moon.” Before starting this new phase, he presented a tour on his channel showing the state in which he found the classic yacht after years of disuse.

The vessel originated from the Burger Boat Company and was initially built for Victor McCormick from Wisconsin. Throughout its journey, it has gone through different names, including Heidi 3, King Tut, and Another Toy 2, before arriving at its current name, Nostalgia 10.

At some point in its later life, the boat even survived as a sort of Airbnb, in a phase very different from that associated with Sinatra’s years. Now, with the restoration proposal, the vessel is attracting attention not for the preserved luxury but for the challenge of recovering a historically worn structure.

The construction cost was estimated at $500,000, which would correspond today to about $6 million. Even reduced to a shadow of what it once was, the boat still allows for the identification of elements that hark back to an earlier era of yachting, before the dominance of helipads, beach clubs, and gleaming teak decks.

Interior preserves marks of another era

The current location of the classic yacht is Wallasea Island in Essex, where it remains abandoned as a 23-meter American classic. What is seen from the outside is a worn silhouette, surrounded by rust and clear signs of deterioration, contrasting with the former glory days in Hollywood.

Inside, however, several areas still retain characteristics that help visually reconstruct the vessel’s past. The dining room, with eight seats, features a defined nautical theme, with portholes on the lower deck, upholstered chairs in blue and red stripes, coordinated curtains, and a rustic vintage-style chandelier.

The space was also designed with functional solutions that remain preserved. There is a hatch to serve food directly from the kitchen, as well as window handles made in New York that still function to open and close the glass.

The main salon is another space that concentrates an important part of the boat’s identity. Completely lined with mahogany wood, it features period furniture and cabinets, as well as an antique television and a coffee table with cabriole legs.

This composition reinforces the contrast between the original sophistication and the current state of the vessel. Even worn, the set still conveys the atmosphere of a time when the classic yacht represented comfort, refinement, and enduring style.

Cabins, master suite, and kitchen reveal wear

The guest accommodations are located on the lower deck and include three cabins with a capacity for up to seven people. One of the cabins has a single bed, good space for storing belongings, a reading night light, and a small window facing the sea.

The bathrooms also retain features from another era. One of them includes a marine-standard toilet, a full bathtub, and a small round window above the toilet, a solution that ensures lighting and ventilation framed by interiors typical of the 1960s and 1970s.

The master suite stands out for its size, especially for a 23-meter vessel. The space offers a large bed, a side bunk, ample storage capacity, built-in wardrobes, and an emergency hatch, although it shows significant water infiltration.

Even with visible damage, the structure allows one to imagine the former configuration of the space at its best moment. The current scenario mixes spaciousness and original elegance with the wear caused by years of neglect and lack of maintenance.

The kitchen appears in a state of complete chaos, but still preserves some important components. The space continues with portholes, a service sink, storage areas, as well as a microwave and a washing machine that remained on board.

Next to the kitchen are the crew accommodations, showing how the internal distribution was organized to reconcile operation and lodging. These areas reinforce that the classic yacht was designed not only for leisure but also to provide functional structure during navigation.

Mechanics received modern updates

Despite the traditional profile of the interior, the vessel has received modern additions to its original configuration. Among them are stabilizers, autopilot, and Vetus hydraulic steering, features that significantly alter the way the boat is operated.

After the repairs, the expectation is that the 23-meter boat can be controlled by joystick. This combination of old elements and modern systems creates an unusual configuration, where the charm of the era coexists with more current technical solutions.

The propulsion is handled by Detroit engines, known for their distinctive sound nicknamed “Screaming Jimmy.” This high-pitched noise has become a hallmark of the project due to the two-stroke architecture and the Roots compressors.

The result is a set that mixes aesthetic tradition and a very unique mechanical identity. In the case of this classic yacht, the restoration may not only restore the appearance of another era but also the sound presence that marked vessels powered by this type of engine.

Past linked to Sinatra keeps vessel in evidence

Although Frank Sinatra may not have been the owner of the boat, he spent a lot of time on the vessel between 1968 and 1974. This connection helps explain why Billy Pethericks’ project sparks interest and keeps the boat in the spotlight even after more than a decade of neglect.

The restoration proposed by the YouTuber presents itself as an attempt to rescue a unique piece of classic nautical history linked to one of the most influential names of the 20th century.

The classic yacht, now reduced to rust, leaks, and aged furniture, still retains enough elements to support the ambition of transforming ruin into a recovered legacy.

The expectation now turns to the next steps of the recovery work shown on Pethericks’ channel. If it progresses successfully, the classic yacht may leave behind 12 years of neglect and regain some of the grandeur that transformed it into a floating shelter of an era marked by excess, mahogany wood, and nautical luxury.
