CEO of Google Takes Full Responsibility for the 12 Thousand Layoffs Announced by the Company, and Said That Some Employees Have Already Been Notified of the Decision by Email. The Layoffs Will Occur in All Countries Where Google Has Operations.
Google announced the layoff of around 12,000 employees worldwide. This represents approximately 6% of Google’s total workforce. The announcement was made on Friday morning, the 20th, in a letter signed by Sundar Pichai, CEO of Google.
The company informed affected employees in the United States via email, while for others in different parts of the world, this process will take longer due to local laws and practices.
The CEO of Google takes full responsibility for the actions that brought them to this point, in the letter. According to him, the layoffs mean saying goodbye to very bright individuals who work hard to recruit and with whom they enjoy working. “I’m deeply sorry for what’s happening,” wrote the CEO.

Other Large Companies Like Google Also Announce Mass Layoffs at the Beginning of This Year 2023
On Wednesday (18th), Microsoft announced it will lay off about 10,000 people, which translates to a 5% reduction in its workforce. On the same day, Amazon began the layoff announcement process that had been disclosed earlier this month and is expected to affect around 18,000 people. Just last year, in November, Meta announced the layoff of 11,000 employees.
In early February, Google is expected to release its fiscal year 2022 results. As part of the announcement, the corporation stated that it will hold a forum on Monday, the 23rd, with the team, and starting today, employees will be instructed to work from home.
Overall, mass layoffs are affecting the IT sector. The wave of layoffs in technology companies has spread across industry giants like Google, Amazon, and Facebook, to small and medium-sized businesses, such as the transportation app 99, which also reported layoffs. This wave of layoffs has the potential to spread to many more startups, a sector that has been responsible for thousands of jobs across the country in recent years.
