Chevrolet Confirms Unprecedented Model Below the Tracker, with 1.0 Turbo Engine, Robust Look, and National Production Starting in 2026
General Motors has revealed the first images of the new Onix SUV, which will be produced at the Gravataí (RS) plant. The new model will fill the gap between the Onix hatch and the Tracker SUV, with a launch expected in 2026.
The model, still camouflaged, was shown during an institutional video for the plant’s 25th anniversary. It reinforces GM’s focus on expanding its presence in the entry-level compact SUV segment, where it will compete with Fiat Pulse, Renault Kardian, and VW Tera.
Robust Design and Unprecedented Look for the New Onix SUV

Even under heavy camouflage, the new Onix SUV displays a more aggressive and elevated style. The LED headlights are positioned at the ends of the bumper, while the daytime running lights are at the top, simulating the main headlights. The lower grille is wide and incorporates fog lights, highlighting the Chevrolet emblem in the center.

At the rear, LED taillights connect through a light strip, reinforcing the brand’s new visual language. The set suggests a more robust and sporty design, aimed at Brazilians looking for a modern and accessible utility vehicle.
Onix Platform with 1.0 Turbo Engine and Technological Interior

The new Onix SUV will be built on the same platform as the Onix, with a wheelbase of 2.55 m and about 4.15 m in length, close to the size of the VW Tera. The expectation is that it will bring a 1.0 turbo engine with up to 116 hp, along with versions with a naturally aspirated engine of 82 hp. The more expensive configurations are expected to use a 6-speed automatic transmission.
Inside, the SUV will follow the pattern of the latest Chevrolet models, featuring a digtal dashboard, 11” multimedia system with Wi-Fi, digital air conditioning, induction charger, and complete integration with smartphones.
Gravataí Plant Will Be Modernized to Receive the New SUV
The development of the new Onix SUV marks a new phase for the Gravataí plant, which has already received over R$ 6 billion in investments since its inauguration in 2000. In 2024 alone, R$ 1.2 billion was allocated to prepare the assembly line for this project.
The Chevrolet strategy aims to strengthen its competitiveness in one of the most competitive niches in the country: compact SUVs below R$ 120,000, where Fiat, Renault, and VW compete for every inch of market share with constant launches.
