Helibras Mine Factory Will Be A Strategic Hub for H145 Production, Adding Jobs, Technology, and High-Value Exports
A strategic initiative between Brazil and France, formalized on July 2, 2025, marks a new chapter in the Brazilian aerospace industry. Helibras, which is controlled by Airbus, was chosen to produce the H145 helicopter, considered one of the most advanced multipurpose models in the world.
According to the Ministry of Development, Industry, Commerce and Services (MDIC), the project anticipates investments exceeding R$ 1 billion. Therefore, the expectation is to deliver up to 200 aircraft in 15 years, aimed at both the domestic market and exports.
Letter of Intent Formalizes Technological Expansion
The Letter of Intent was signed following a meeting in Brasília. The Vice President Geraldo Alckmin, responsible for MDIC, met with the Minister Delegate for Foreign Trade of France, Laurent Saint-Martin. Thus, it was determined that Helibras, based in Itajubá (MG), will become a regional hub for production and export of the H145, thereby adding technological value to the New Industry Brazil (NIB).

The Aeronauts’ Union warns that the Brazilian aviation system is heading for an unprecedented collapse and points to the increase in flights with foreign crews in the Amazon, the deadlock over fatigue, and the stalling of special retirement as threats to air safety and sovereignty.
According to the Executive Secretary of MDIC, Márcio Elias Rosa, who led the negotiations, the international commitment reinforces productive density, local innovation, and consequently guarantees the generation of qualified jobs.
Billion-Dollar Investment Boosts Supplier Chain
Industry experts, such as Agência Brasil and representatives from Airbus Helicopters, emphasize that each H145 helicopter has an estimated value of US$ 15 million. Furthermore, the initial schedule anticipates the manufacture of the first units in the coming years. Thus, there is expectation to boost the economy of Minas Gerais, strengthen regional supply chains, and consequently open new jobs.
In this way, local companies will be integrated to provide parts, services, and technology. Thus, the project becomes strategically relevant for the Southern Hemisphere.
Helibras Establishes Itself as the Only Rotary Wing Manufacturer
Founded in 1978, Helibras is, therefore, the only helicopter manufacturer in the Southern Hemisphere. It has already delivered over 850 aircraft in Brazil, according to the MDIC (2025). The company, which is currently controlled by Airbus, produces models such as the H125, known as Ecureuil, and the H225, focused on military use.
Thus, the introduction of the H145 further expands the portfolio of Itajubá. This attracts new international orders and reaffirms, consequently, Brazil as a reference in rotary wing technology.
Operational Versatility of the H145
The H145 is recognized, therefore, for its versatility and embedded technology. It can be used in civilian and military missions. In addition, its applications include passenger transport, emergency medical services, public safety, wind farm support, offshore operations, rescues, and military reconnaissance.
In addition, Airbus specialists emphasize that the model offers high fuel efficiency and low noise levels. It also features advanced navigation systems, thus ensuring safety and operational economy.
Alignment with New Industry Brazil
The production of the H145 therefore follows the guidelines of the New Industry Brazil. This program from the Federal Government aims to modernize the industrial base. In addition, it seeks to increase the technological content and thereby expand high value-added exports.
The Vice President Geraldo Alckmin, in an official statement at the MDIC, highlighted that the international partnership is, therefore, an essential step to position Brazil among the major aircraft exporters.
Expectation of Socioeconomic Impact
With the agreement, Helibras expects to expand, thus, the hiring of skilled labor. Moreover, the goal is to stimulate the development of new suppliers. Therefore, Itajubá consolidates itself as a strategic hub for the aerospace sector.
Local production, combined with the transfer of technology from Airbus, represents, consequently, a turning point for the Brazilian industry. This assessment was highlighted by technicians from MDIC, on July 2, 2025.
Planning for the Coming Years
The industrial planning indicates that initial production should begin, thus, in 2026. Therefore, the first units of the H145 will be delivered to domestic and international customers.
Until then, the federal government, Airbus, and Helibras will monitor technical, environmental, and economic aspects. Thus, it will be ensured that the entire operation follows quality standards and sustainability.
International Context
Just as major mineral discoveries can revolutionize local economies, the investment in aerospace technology, therefore, strengthens the national industry. In addition, it projects Brazil in the global market for multipurpose helicopters.
The H145, therefore, can become a symbol of innovation. It combines competitiveness, income generation, and expansion of exports, consequently following international best practices in the sector.
What Does the Future Hold for the Brazilian Industry?
Experts say that the production of the H145 paves the way for new contracts and technological partnerships. This also fosters professional training. However, success depends on transparent management, efficient governance, and a focus on sustainable development.
Meanwhile, the expectation of regional growth in Minas Gerais, therefore, positions Brazil as a protagonist in the production of cutting-edge helicopters in the Southern Hemisphere.
