Honda Maintains Adventurous Tradition and Expands Technologies, Consolidating the Africa Twin as a Reference Among Big Trails for Mixed Use in Brazil

The Honda presented to the market the renewed CRF1100L Africa Twin 2026 line, maintaining its recognized adventurous proposal and further strengthening its trajectory as one of the most respected big trails in the country. The set of improvements — especially in electronic technologies, ergonomics, and version offerings — reinforces the direction initiated in 2015, when the model reemerged with a parallel twin engine, definitively breaking with the old V2 used until 2002. Thus, the Japanese manufacturer delivers a product designed for long journeys, hostile terrains, and expeditions, without compromising comfort and connectivity desired by today’s audience.

The big trail gained relevance by combining lightness, efficient cycling, and real capacity to tackle difficult terrains. In 2019, came the electronic throttle and riding modes, while in 2021 the engine jumped to 1,084 cm³. By 2023, the versions equipped with the DCT transmission began production in Manaus, expanding access to technology in the Brazilian market. As reported by Honda, the biggest recent news had been the 19-inch front wheel in the Adventure Sports version for 2025, favoring road behavior without sacrificing off-road performance.

Three Versions, Three Profiles: From Off-Road Focus to Total Long-Distance Touring

The new line arrives in three well-defined configurations to cater to different adventure motorcyclists’ profiles:

  • CRF1100L Africa Twin MT — manual transmission, 18.8-liter tank, and greater off-road focus;
  • CRF1100L Africa Twin DCT — the same adventurous proposal, but with dual-clutch transmission;
  • CRF1100L Africa Twin Adventure Sports DCT — larger 24.8-liter tank and 19” front wheel, designed for those covering long distances on pavement.

All versions use the parallel twin engine of 1,084 cm³, capable of delivering 99.3 hp and 10.9 kgf.m, ensuring enough power for overtaking, steep climbs, and carrying a passenger and luggage. In the DCT and Adventure Sports versions, the presence of the Showa EERA™ electronic suspension allows for automatic adjustments and pre-load settings even while the motorcycle is in motion, a feature valued by travelers who face constant terrain changes. As confirmed by the manufacturer, the chassis remains a semi-double cradle type made of steel, using a swingarm derived from the CRF450R.

The six-axis IMU manages advanced systems such as cornering ABS, traction control with seven levels, wheelie control, and riding mode selection: Urban, Tour, Gravel, Off-road, and two fully customizable modes.

Redesigned Ergonomics, 6.5” Display, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and Electronic Throttle Control

The Africa Twin 2026 also evolves in equipment and ergonomics. The model features a windscreen with five levels of adjustment, a 6.5″ touch-sensitive TFT display, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, Bluetooth connectivity, and cruise control. The seat has variable height adjustment depending on the version, while the full-LED lighting system has automatic DRL for enhanced visibility.

The versions equipped with DCT — including the Adventure Sports — offer heated grips, reinforcing their long-distance touring focus. The Adventure Sports, in particular, stands out with its larger capacity tank, ergonomics favored for prolonged riding, and a front wheel with a 19” rim, which improves performance at high speeds and stability on paved roads.

The parallel twin engine employs a Unicam design, two spark plugs per cylinder, and 46 mm throttle bodies. Additionally, the 270° phased crankshaft enhances traction and delivers a pulse feel closer to V2 engines. The semi-dry sump lubrication reduces dimensions, improves thermal control, and contributes to the overall balance of the unit. All electronics manage power, engine braking, traction, and wheelie control, with constant feedback from the IMU. The TBW throttle offers precise and direct responses.

DCT System and Chassis Enhance Control and Safety on Any Terrain

The Honda dual-clutch transmission — already present in over 300,000 motorcycles worldwide — allows for automatic or manual gear changes via controls on the handlebars. The S mode has three levels, and the “G” button optimizes behavior on trails by making responses more direct, increasing the feel of contact with the ground.

In terms of cycling, the MT version uses traditional Showa suspension, with 230 mm travel in the front and 220 mm in the rear. The DCT and Adventure Sports versions receive the Showa EERA™ electronic set, with pre-programmed modes: Mid, Hard, Soft, and Off-road, as well as customizable modes for those desiring fine-tuning. The Adventure Sports utilizes a 19” front wheel and suspensions with slightly shorter travel (210 mm in front and 200 mm in the back), with ground clearance varying between 220 and 250 mm, depending on the configuration.
