An Elderly Woman From Interior SP Was a Victim of a Million-Dollar Scam! Believing She Was in a Relationship With Elon Musk, She Lost R$ 35 Thousand. The Scammer Used Promises Like Luxury Gifts, VIP Cards, and Even Cryptocurrencies. Despite the Loss, She Remains Convinced That She Was Talking to the Billionaire. Know the Details of This Incredible Story!

In the interior of São Paulo, an intriguing and almost unbelievable story caught the attention of the authorities and the public.

A 61-year-old pensioner, a widow and resident of the region, fell victim to an audacious scam that mixed technology, emotional manipulation, and impossible promises.

The elderly woman believed she was in a romantic relationship with none other than Elon Musk, the billionaire owner of Tesla and SpaceX.

The result? More than R$ 35 thousand transferred to the scammer, who even promised a BMW as a gift.

The story, revealed by TV Record, begins with an introduction worthy of a movie script: the widow was approached online by someone claiming to be Elon Musk.

According to her, the supposed billionaire even opened the camera during their conversations, convincing her that he was indeed who he said he was.

The elderly woman stated with conviction: “I saw him with the children, with the family, and I have no reason to lie.”

How the Scam Began

Everything started in March 2024, when the scammer made the first contact offering fan cards for Elon Musk. Although she showed no interest at the time, the elderly woman maintained contact.

Three months later, he reached out to her again, this time offering a “special gift for fans.”

From then on, the victim began to be ensnared in an elaborate scheme, mixing outrageous proposals with a false emotional involvement.

In June, the scammer presented an offer that caught the elderly woman’s attention: a package that included a Tesla phone, a VIP card, and a luxury car.

Initially, he offered a Tesla, but she declined, claiming the car was too low.

It was then that they both “negotiated” a BMW. “It was agreed upon a BMW,” recalls the elderly woman, who transferred the first amounts right afterward.

Emotional Manipulation and False Promises

The supposed Elon Musk maintained daily contact with the victim, sending videos and photos that reinforced his false identity.

He shared images of offices, moments of work, and even personal stories to gain the pensioner’s trust.

In one of the conversations, he even said he would leave everything to live in Brazil with her. “He told me he loved me and that I was the woman of his life,” she recounted.

The financial requests began to increase gradually.

Besides the initial deposits for the supposed car, the scammer presented an investment opportunity in Bitcoin, promising exorbitant profits.

The elderly woman invested R$ 5,000 and, days later, saw a fictitious balance of R$ 11,000 on her computer screen, shown by the scammer in a video call.

This encouraged her to make new deposits, always believing in the promise of financial returns.

The Role of Technology in the Scam

The victim revealed that the scammer used sophisticated techniques to convince her.

During video calls, he complied with her requests, such as touching his face or moving his hair, reinforcing the illusion of authenticity.

Additionally, he guided her to purchase virtual gift cards and send the codes, accumulating a loss of over R$ 3,000 just in this modality.

According to experts consulted by TV Record, scams of this type have become increasingly common due to the use of deepfakes and other technological resources that allow the creation of convincing fake images and videos.

The emotional vulnerability of the victim was also a determining factor, as she reported feeling lonely and needy after becoming a widow.

The Attempt to Reverse the Loss

Even after losing more than R$ 35 thousand, the elderly woman still believes she was talking to the real Elon Musk. “I don’t think it’s a lie because I saw him. There’s no way it could be fake,” she said in an interview.

However, she decided to contact the police when she realized that other requests began to arise, such as the purchase of a property in Ribeirão Preto for the billionaire to live close to her.

The police are investigating the case and warning about the importance of being skeptical of virtual contacts, especially when they involve public figures and financial requests.

According to experts, it is essential to verify the authenticity of information and never make transfers without proper confirmation.

The Alert to the Population

Cases like this show how social engineering and emotional manipulation can lead people to significant financial and psychological losses.

TV Record highlighted that, only in 2024, scams of this type grew exponentially, harming victims of different ages and social conditions.

This elderly woman’s story is an extreme example but serves as a warning for everyone.
