Imetame Announces the Construction of a Thermoelectric Power Plant in Camaçari in the State of Bahia
Imetame Announced the Construction of a New Thermoelectric Power Plant in the Camaçari Region in Bahia, with Investment of 180 Million Reais
With the construction of a new thermoelectric power plant in Bahia, Imetame can neutralize high levels of carbon, design new reforestation projects, and new investments to further improve energy efficiency in the Camaçari region.
Carbon Neutral Thermoelectric Power Plant in Bahia
The new thermoelectric power plant in Camaçari, Bahia, built by Imetame, will be entirely powered by natural gas. The original idea for the plant was to be based on biomass, but the project based on another entrepreneur ultimately failed, and the company took over the idea of a thermoelectric power plant. Thus, Imetame acquired the PPA from the former entrepreneur and put its idea on the agenda, but it will still need approval from Brazilian government regulatory agencies.
The Imetame Thermoelectric Power Plant in Camaçari (BA) Will Have Investments of R$ 180 Million
The thermoelectric plant, named UTE Prosperidade III, will be built in Camaçari (BA) and will receive an initial investment of R$ 180 million, with an initial expectation of starting operations in the second half of 2022.
Gilson Pereira, Executive Director of Imetame, says that “Our new thermoelectric power plant in Bahia will consist of a combination of three types of plants; however, the other two previous plants were contracted through energy auctions. All types of plants used for Imetame’s project idea are part of a model called ‘gas-to-wire’, remaining close to Imetame’s gas wells in Recôncavo Baiano.”
