Even in advanced stage of pregnancy, military surprises by competing in high-level event, balancing motherhood, career in the Army, and elite sports performance

The routine within the Brazilian Army demands discipline, physical preparation, and, above all, a sense of camaraderie. However, in February of this year, these values took on a new meaning in Curitiba (PR). During a military orientation competition held at the 5th Self-Propelled Field Artillery Group, 3rd Sergeant Juliane Heinrichs Peres starred in a story that quickly drew attention for her strength, courage, and overcoming challenges.

Seven months pregnant, Juliane not only participated in the event but also led her team to victory. While navigating a demanding course in the field, the soldier demonstrated that physical limits can be redefined when there is preparation, proper support, and determination. Thus, her participation became more than just a sporting event; it turned into a powerful symbol within the Armed Forces.

Moreover, her decision was carefully monitored by specialized medical supervision, ensuring safety for both the athlete and the pregnancy. Therefore, each step taken during the competition carried not only strategy and endurance but also responsibility and awareness.

The information was shared by the “5th Self-Propelled Field Artillery Group,” detailing the competition and the soldier’s performance, while also highlighting the positive impact of the initiative within the military environment.

Trajectory in military sports reinforces national and international prominence in orientation

Even before this remarkable episode, Juliane was already building a solid career as a high-performance athlete. Since 2019, she has been part of the Army Sports Commission (CDE), where she develops her athletic potential in one of the most challenging disciplines: orientation.

Her journey is marked by significant achievements. In 2024, she won the title of South American champion in the sprint category, a feat that reinforces her position among the top athletes in the discipline. Two years earlier, she had already reached the position of vice-champion in the same competition, demonstrating consistency and continuous evolution.

Additionally, the sergeant also holds Brazilian titles in the sprint and forest categories, further consolidating her relevance in the sports scene. Therefore, her participation in the competition during pregnancy was not a coincidence, but rather the continuation of a career built on discipline and excellence.

Example of overcoming challenges inspires women, mothers, and soldiers throughout Brazil

Balancing military life with intense training while also living an active motherhood is not a simple task. However, Juliane turned this challenge into inspiration. Her story shows that motherhood does not represent a limitation, but can become an additional source of strength and motivation.

In this sense, she has become a reference for other women, especially those facing the challenge of balancing career and personal life. Her journey reinforces the importance of female presence in spaces historically dominated by men and highlights a significant change within military institutions.

In 2026, for example, the Brazilian Army recorded important milestones in this transformation process. Among them, stands out the promotion of the first woman to the rank of general, Brigadier General Claudia Lima Gusmão Cacho, as well as the incorporation of the first female soldiers into the Initial Military Service. These advances show that stories like Juliane’s are part of a larger movement to value women.

Army Sports Commission has over a century of training elite athletes

The Army Sports Commission (CDE), responsible for supporting athletes like Juliane, has a century-long history. Established on June 22, 1915, the institution operates in three main areas: educational training, development within the troop, and encouragement of high performance.

In this last aspect, the CDE has played a fundamental role in achieving significant results. Athletes linked to the program have already won medals and prominent positions in national and international competitions, including the Olympic Games.

Thus, Juliane’s performance not only reinforces her individual story but also helps strengthen the image of the Brazilian Army in the sports scene. Her victory, therefore, goes beyond competition — it represents a concrete example of how discipline, preparation, and determination can transform challenges into memorable achievements.
