According to the Brazilian Traffic Code (CTB), infractions are classified as light, medium, serious, and very serious.
However, the so-called self-suspending fines represent the greatest risk, as they involve infractions so serious that they lead to the immediate suspension of the CNH. These severe penalties offer no room for negotiation or defense: from the moment the infraction is committed, the suspension is automatic.
Infractions That Can Cost You Your CNH
According to the Garagem 360 portal, among the most severe infractions are driving under the influence of alcohol, participating in illegal races, performing dangerous maneuvers, and other situations that put the lives of all road users at risk. Below is a list of the main self-suspending infractions and their corresponding penalties:
- Driving Under the Influence of Alcohol or Drugs: R$ 2,934.70 / 12 months suspension
- Refusing to Take the Breathalyzer Test: R$ 2,934.70 / 12 months suspension

These infractions leave no room for luck. The driver who violates any of these rules will see their CNH suspended immediately, and depending on the severity, the suspension period may vary from one to twelve months.
The Impact of the Rules
These regulations reflect a tightening of traffic laws in Brazil, aimed at increasing safety on the roads and reducing the number of accidents.
The message is clear: there is no room for recklessness. Drivers who do not respect the rules will face strict penalties that can go beyond CNH suspension, including heavy fines and, in some cases, criminal charges.
To avoid unpleasant surprises, drivers must be aware of traffic laws and adopt an even more responsible attitude behind the wheel.
Heightened attention and adherence to safety standards can be the difference between retaining or losing your freedom to drive.
With these rules in effect, drivers’ responsibilities significantly increase. What do you think about these severe penalties? Leave your comment below and share your opinion on the impact of these laws on the daily lives of Brazilian drivers.
