New Traffic Law Surprises Drivers and May Result in Suspension of CNH. Find Out How to Avoid the Fine That May Reach Almost R$ 6 Thousand!
A new traffic law in effect this year, 2025, outlines details of the serious traffic violation that can result in an absurd fine of almost R$ 6 thousand for drivers, in addition to the suspension of the CNH. In this article, we will detail everything about the new law that could generate a traffic fine that will weigh heavily on drivers’ pockets.
How to Avoid the Traffic Fine and Suspension of CNH?
The new traffic law concerns the violation related to the improper use of a vehicle to deliberately interrupt, restrict or disturb traffic on public roads without authorization.
The serious violation is punishable by a high fine, removal of the vehicle from the location, and suspension of the CNH. In detail, this type of conduct is regulated by the Article 253-A of the Brazilian Traffic Code and is considered one of the most severe violations outlined in the legislation.

Bugatti separates from Volkswagen after 26 years, Porsche sells a 45% stake in the joint venture to a US consortium and leaves control of the French brand in the hands of Rimac, which takes over product and development of the Tourbillon and the future of the manufacturer.
Thus, drivers who commit this traffic law violation must face a fine 20 times the base value of a serious violation, totaling R$ 5,869.40, suspension of the CNH, and the right to drive for 12 months, removal of the vehicle from the violation location, and in case of recidivism within 12 months, the fine amount doubles to R$ 11,738.80.
Finally, if the action is conducted in an organized or coordinated manner, the fine has a multiplier factor of 60 times, raising the traffic fine to R$ 17,608.20. In cases of organized recidivism within a year, the amount can reach up to R$ 35,216.40.
Understand the Maximum Number of Points for Suspension of CNH
All drivers must be aware that there is a maximum number of points permitted on the CNH within 12 months. This is because every traffic fine received adds points to the license for one year, after which they disappear. Thus, those who do not commit any serious violations can accumulate up to 40 points in 12 months without facing CNH suspension.
Those who have a serious violation can accumulate up to 30 points. However, those with two or more serious violations have a limit of 20 points. If CNH suspension occurs, the driver will have to go through the entire recycling process to regain the right to drive a vehicle.
The penalties for serious traffic violations include 7 points on the CNH, traffic fines that start at R$ 293.47, depending on the severity of the violation, automatic suspension of the National Driver’s License, vehicle impounding, collection of driver’s documentation, and even imprisonment.
New Traffic Law That Takes Effect in 2025
This year, new traffic guidelines will be implemented in Brazil, aiming to increase road safety. Among the changes is the incorporation of an additional exam for the renewal of the National Driver’s License (CNH) and the requirement that vehicle mirrors are in excellent condition.
These changes were instituted by the National Traffic Council (Contran) and aim to respond to growing concerns about road safety in the country, ensuring that drivers are well prepared and informed.
With the arrival of 2025, drivers will need to take a practical and theoretical exam to renew their CNH. This new requirement goes beyond the current health exams, reinforcing the need for continuous updating of drivers’ knowledge and skills.
