The Threat of Salmonella
Salmonella is a bacterium that can cause severe food poisoning in humans. Two main species, S. enterica and S. bongori, are known to be responsible for illnesses. Contamination primarily occurs through the ingestion of food that has come into contact with feces from infected animals such as dogs, chickens, pigs, and even reptiles.
The most common symptoms of salmonellosis include diarrhea, vomiting, fever, abdominal pain, and general malaise. These manifestations can appear between 6 to 72 hours after consuming contaminated food and last on average from two to seven days. Treatment usually includes administering antibiotics and maintaining the patient’s hydration.

What to Do If You’ve Consumed Any Candy?
If you have ingested any of these candies, be alert to the symptoms described earlier and seek medical attention immediately if you start to show signs of poisoning. Salmonella contamination can be dangerous, especially for children, the elderly, and individuals with compromised immune systems.
According to Anvisa, monitoring of the situation will continue until all contaminated products are removed from the market. Furthermore, the agency emphasizes the importance of consumers following the recommendations from Dori and avoiding the consumption of these batches.
