Log-In Logistics Launches ReIntegrate at Sea Program to Minimize Maritime Deficit. Initiative Focuses on 1st Officer and Chief Engineer, Offering Customized Logistics Solutions.

Log-In Logistics launches a new project aimed at reducing the deficit of mariners in the market. Named ReIntegrate at Sea, the program is an initiative that aims to improve the qualifications and quantity of specialized workers in the fleet. This action arises as a response to the growing demand for professionals in the sector and seeks to provide support to reintegrate workers in an effective and efficient manner.

The initiative will focus on crucial roles such as 1st Officer and Chief Engineer, providing advanced training and technical support to ensure that professionals are well-prepared. With an offering of customized logistics solutions, ReIntegrate at Sea also strives to raise industry standards, ensuring that mariners can perform their roles with excellence. This movement is essential for sustaining sector growth and maintaining competitiveness in an increasingly demanding market.

Challenges in the Shipping Market

The low number of maritime professionals is a challenge that has left the shipping market on high alert. Data from a survey conducted by the Vanzolini Foundation in collaboration with the Innovation Center in Logistics and Port Infrastructure of USP (Cilip) indicate that by 2030, it will be imperative to train 4,000 Merchant Navy officers. In Brazil, the certification of these important professionals is exclusively carried out by the Navy, requiring three years of studies complemented by up to two years of practice on board, through the Merchant Marine Officer Training Schools (EFOMM), which include Ciaga (Rio de Janeiro-RJ) and Ciaba (Belém-PA).

Certification Governance

These courses are offered annually, but the number of available slots is far from sufficient to meet the demand in the Brazilian market. Furthermore, it is the responsibility of the governing body to conduct the Revalidation Exams for Nautical and Machine Officers (ERON/EROM), which not only have very few slots but also are courses that can take up to nine months to complete. This scarcity of Brazilian mariners in the market, especially Machine and Nautical Officers, has caused significant hiring difficulties for Brazilian Shipping Companies, becoming a huge bottleneck for the growth of cabotage services, considering that employing Brazilian crew members on vessels operating in this traffic is mandatory.

Measures to Minimize Scarcity

In an effort to minimize the impacts arising from the revelations of the study commissioned by the Brazilian Cabotage Shipowners Association (ABAC) and the National Union of Maritime Navigation Companies (Syndarma), Log-In Logistics Integrated launched the ReIntegrate at Sea Program. This project aims to allow 1st Officers and Chief Engineers with expired certifications to resume their navigation activities. According to Andréa Simões, Director of People, Culture, and Digital Transformation at Log-In, the measure does not fully resolve the professional deficit but contributes to the reintegration of these mariners into the sector.

‘The lack of workforce can severely hinder the segment’s development, potentially causing a reduction in operations and interrupting fleet expansion. Thus, both large organizations and responsible authorities must seek solutions that can truly address this problem’, highlights Andréa.

Strategic Reinsertion

Although the Navy offers courses, the Manager of Internal Consulting at Log-In, Paula Oliveira, emphasizes that the program reallocates these mariners more quickly. ‘In just three months, in the internship modality, Log-In can support reintegration and renew the certifications of these professionals in record time, forming highly qualified machinist teams for the company’s fleet’, comments Paula Oliveira.

ReIntegrate at Sea Program

During the project, participants will be assigned to Log-In vessels based on operational needs, providing a complete experience in cabotage and long-haul services. A total of two positions will be available: one for 1st Officer and another for Chief Engineer, with full salaries corresponding to the categories. Additionally, participants will be entitled to all benefits offered to current employees, such as health and dental plans, extended to dependents, and access to the ‘Viva Bem’ and ‘Amor de Mãe’ programs, as well as assistance such as Gympass, transportation vouchers, and meal vouchers.

Contracts and Evaluations

After the internship period, Log-In may offer a permanent contract of 18 months, depending on the results obtained during the evaluations carried out during the program. ‘The commitment to the development of our team is already a hallmark of Log-In. We believe that valuing and creating opportunities for engaged individuals is the way to foster an increasingly competitive market’, claims Andréa.

Selection Process

To participate in the program, candidates must possess a complete higher education degree, a Registration and Enrollment Book (CIR) for revalidation, previous experience on vessels, and, as a differential, have worked with containers, in addition to holding proof of vaccination for the four doses against COVID-19 and the International Yellow Fever Certificate. Applications must be submitted by July 30, on the Gupy page, through the provided link. After analyzing the registrations, selected candidates will undergo interviews with the Human Resources team and Management, receive the Proposal Letter, and finally, the hiring will be completed.

Significant Opportunity

For Andréa, the program represents a significant opportunity to highlight the current challenges faced by the shipping sector and, moreover, reintegrate exemplary professionals into the market. ‘This initiative is the first step not only to meet labor needs but also to recognize the importance of mariners for the operational efficiency of our vessels and the entire maritime chain’, she concludes.
