On July 31, Macaé Will Have Its Future Decided in the Offshore Sector at a Meeting on the Revitalization of Mature Fields. Everything Is Favorable
The revitalization of mature fields in the Campos Basin Will Literally Be Macaé’s Salvation, according to industry experts. Many global companies have already confirmed that they will participate in the upcoming stages of exploratory block auctions organized by ANP between 2017 and 2019.
In the Campos Basin, there are exploration fields that have been in production since the 1980s and they are now entering decline due to the depletion of these wells. However, Petrobras along with other scientific organizations in the sector have discovered that it is possible to revitalize these same sources by employing new technologies. This is where Macaé comes into play!
Why Is Macaé Still the Focus of Companies?
Despite the entire economic crisis and recession, all technological/ industrial infrastructure in the oil and gas sector is still in the city. The Campos Basin remains a business hub worth billions of reais, and the employment potential will be approximately 25,000 jobs when this system is implemented.

With this new perspective, on July 31 (Monday) there will be a meeting organized by the OTC (Offshore Technology Conference), where representatives of Petrobras, Macaé, and companies interested in taking over the shared concession of these mature fields will discuss projections and estimates for this new cycle of prosperity in the city.
Expectations
After all the agenda items from this meeting are resolved, only the permission from Petrobras to share and concession the production of these reserves in the mature fields with companies that already HAVE THE NECESSARY TECHNOLOGY TO REVITALIZE THEM will remain. Despite being in production for a long time, with the application of these new techniques, there will still be much oil to extract from these fields that were previously in a negative productivity vector. When Petrobras gives the “OK”, billions in investments will be instantly injected into the economy of the offshore oil and gas sector in the Campos Basin. As immediate as that, will be the opening of job vacancies, hiring, and reintegration of professionals laid off due to the crisis affecting the sector.
Macaé is undoubtedly still very important for the economic chain in the fossil fuels sector in Rio de Janeiro, in the country, and even internationally. The moment is now, and we hope to come with good news in the coming days.
