New Radars Begin Operations on Highways in São Paulo This Tuesday, Covering Strategic Sections and Monitoring Speed Continually. The Measure Aims to Reduce Accidents and Enhance Road Safety in Different Regions of the State.
Starting at 7 AM this Tuesday, August 12, more than 50 new radars in the interior of SP began monitoring speed continuously on highways passing through Sorocaba, Itapetininga, Bauru and São José do Rio Preto.
According to the Department of Roads of São Paulo (DER-SP), the goal is to reduce accidents caused by speeding, following the guidelines of the Brazilian Traffic Code (CTB).
The devices have already been installed and properly signposted, with signs informing the speed limit before each monitoring point.

How Fiscalization Works
The new radars in the interior of SP use sensors and cameras to record the speed at the moment of the vehicle passing.
When the limit is exceeded, the system automatically issues an infraction notice with photo, date, time, and recorded speed.
According to the CTB, the fine varies based on the percentage exceeded:
- Up to 20% over the limit: medium infraction, fine of R$ 130.16 and four points on the driver’s license
- Between 20% and 50% over: serious infraction, fine of R$ 195.23 and five points
- More than 50% over: extremely serious infraction, fine of R$ 880.41, seven points, and immediate suspension of the right to drive
Expected Impact on Highways
Previous reports from DER-SP indicate that the installation of radars can reduce collisions by up to 40% in critical stretches.
The presence of 24-hour speed monitoring prevents sudden traffic variations and reduces the risks of congestion and accidents.
The expansion includes urban areas, rural areas, and cargo transport routes, reinforcing the need for adaptation by drivers.
Tips to Avoid Fines
- Always respect the signage before the monitoring point
- Use cruise control on long stretches
- Gradually reduce speed when seeing warning signs
- Avoid overtaking on single lanes
- Maintain a safe distance from the vehicle ahead
These practices help maintain safety and comply with 24-hour speed monitoring rules.
With so many new control points, do you think drivers will change their behavior on the road or will recklessness continue even with more radars?

Be the first to react!
