The 2025 Toyota Hilux Remains Leader With 2.8 Turbo Diesel Engine, 204 Hp, Fuel Consumption of Up to 10 Km/L, and a Robust Package Including 4×4 Traction, Reinforced Suspension, 7 Airbags, and 360° Cameras.
The Toyota Hilux has already spent ten years in its eighth generation and is approaching the end of its cycle, but continues to dominate the Brazilian market. Between January and August 2025, approximately 32 thousand units were registered, a performance well ahead of the Ford Ranger, the second place with just over 21.7 thousand units.
Even being an older project and bringing less technology than newer rivals like the Chinese pickups arriving in the country, the Hilux remains a reference among 4×4 turbo diesels. The reputation for mechanical reliability, robustness, and Toyota’s after-sales service are strengths that sustain its leadership.
With the interruption of Corolla and Corolla Cross production in Brazil following the storm that destroyed the engine factory in Porto Feliz (SP), the pickup manufactured in Argentina should gain even more prominence within the Japanese brand.

Imposing Visual With Exclusive Details
The SRX Plus version, priced at R$ 353,290, fills the gap left by the sporty Hilux GR Sport, discontinued at the end of 2024. Even after a decade on the road, the Hilux still conveys robustness in its design.
At the front, the chrome grille stands out along with the mirrors, door handles, and rear bumper in the same finish. This configuration comes with wider axle tracks and fender flares, giving it a more muscular appearance. The metallic roll bar painted in the body color reinforces the image of a respectable utility vehicle.
On the sides, the diamond-cut 18-inch alloy wheels draw attention. The set imparts a sense of modernity without losing the classic identity of the Hilux.

Simple But Functional Interior
Inside, the Hilux offers reasonable space for five occupants. In the rear seat, the more vertical backrest may cause discomfort on long trips, a common detail in midsize pickups.
The finish features well-fitted hard plastics in different textures and colors. Despite its simplicity, it conveys good solidity. The project’s age is evident in elements like the gear shift lever inherited from the old Corolla and the analog instrument panel with a 4.2” screen. The iconic digital clock with green characters remains steady, pleasing more traditional fans.
Among the highlights, the SRX Plus comes equipped with a 9” multimedia system compatible with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay wirelessly, JBL sound system with a subwoofer, ventilated front seats, power-adjustable driver’s seat, keyless entry, push-button start, and dual-zone digital climate control.
The package is generous, but it still falls short by not offering a sunroof, electronic parking brake, and wireless phone charger.

Reinforced Safety
Toyota has not skimped in this area. The Hilux SRX Plus comes standard with seven airbags, adaptive cruise control, automatic emergency braking, collision warning and lane departure alert, 360° cameras, towing assistants, and front and rear parking sensors.
The headlights and taillights are full-LED, and there is tire pressure monitoring. Still, considering the price, it would be interesting to offer active lane centering and higher-definition cameras.
Robust Mechanics and Off-Road Performance
On or off the pavement, the Hilux delivers the drivability that made it famous. The suspension effectively filters impacts, aided by all-terrain tires. In this version, there are reinforcements in the assembly, with dual-tube shock absorbers, widened suspension arms, and increased ground clearance to 32.3 cm.
In practice, it crosses ditches, bumps, and rough terrain with ease. The 4×4 traction with low range and the differential lock make it one of the best-prepared pickups for trails.
The 2.8 turbo diesel engine remains the heart of the pickup, with 204 hp at 3,400 rpm and torque of 50.9 kgfm. The six-speed automatic transmission delivers smooth shifts, although a higher number of gears could aid efficiency. The curb weight is 2,175 kg, with a payload capacity of just over 1 ton.
According to data from Inmetro, the fuel consumption is 9.3 km/l in the city and 10 km/l on the highway, acceptable numbers for the size and purpose of the model, but below some competitors.

Hilux Remains Unbeatable
Even on the brink of receiving a new generation, the Toyota Hilux demonstrates why it is the undisputed leader among midsize pickups in Brazil. Mechanical reliability, robustness off-road, and an efficient dealer network still speak louder than the technology available in competitors.
With a price in the range of R$ 350 thousand, the SRX Plus version maintains the tradition of being one of the most desired and reliable pickups in the country.
