Chevrolet Sail, The New Compact Sedan, Arrives To Fill The Space Left By The Classic, Already Being A Sales Success In Other Markets And With Great Potential To Shake Up The Brazilian Market.
Discontinued in 2016, the Chevrolet Classic left a legion of nostalgic fans, particularly grateful for its efficiency as a compact sedan, ideal for families. Its highlights included a surprisingly spacious trunk for its size and the robustness of GM’s I family 1.0 engine. Although the Classic was replaced by the Prisma at the time, the latter failed to replicate the same success for various reasons. Now, Chevrolet presents the Chevrolet Sail sedan, which arrives with the promise of being the worthy successor to the Classic, bringing high expectations to the market.
Chevrolet Sail Sedan Is Considered A Sales Success In Chile
In Chile, there is a cheap sedan that fulfills this proposal very well: the Chevrolet Sail Sedan 2024. Out of the market for a few months in its old generation, the Chevrolet Sail sedan 2024, which has a front resembling the first generation of the Onix, is returning with a much more interesting body style. For those who have never heard of the three-volume model, it is the result of a Chinese project developed by the SAIC-GM-Wulling joint venture, even being imported from China.
It is worth mentioning that the Chevrolet Sail Sedan is one of the most popular models in Chile, accumulating excellent sales numbers in the country since 2011.

Just like the Chevrolet Classic, successor to the Corsinha Sedan, met the needs of many Brazilian families, the Chevrolet Sail Sedan is one of the most sought-after affordable cars by Chileans in need of more space. The model is also sold in Mexico under the name Aveo. While the previous generation Sail Sedan had traits of the Onix and Prisma, the new one, which arrives to take the place of the Classic, brings a more elegant style and squarer lines.
Design, Dashboard, and Trunk Space
The front of the Chevrolet Sail sedan features narrow headlights with a more rectangular shape connected to the grille, as well as a bumper with a smaller air intake, bringing a more classic style than expected. In profile, a crease runs from the front fender to the rear, connecting to the horizontal taillights that invade the trunk lid.

Inside, the Classic’s replacement features straighter and more horizontal lines, which definitely differentiate it from the rest of the brand’s range, with a rounder design. A line runs across the entire dashboard, concealing the air vents, in the best style of the 11th generation Honda Civic. Additionally, the Sail also features an 8-inch multimedia center display in the higher trims.
Being slightly more compact, the vehicle measures 4.49 meters in length, 1.69m in width, 1.49m in height, and has a wheelbase of 2.55 meters. For comparison, the current Onix Plus measures 4.49 meters in length, 1.47m in height, 1.73m in width, and has a wheelbase of 2.60 meters. The Chevrolet Sail sedan has a good trunk capacity of 475 liters, slightly larger than the national sedan (469 L).
New Chevrolet Car Delivers Up To 98 Horsepower
Under the hood, the Chevrolet Sail sedan features a naturally aspirated 1.5-liter four-cylinder gasoline engine that, according to the manufacturer, delivers up to 98 horsepower and 14.2 kgfm of torque. There are two transmission options: a six-speed manual or a CVT automatic. It is sold in LT and LTZ variants, the latter with two transmission options.
It is noteworthy that the model, although basic, already features disc brakes, even in the rear, whereas the Onix Plus here has rear drum brakes. It is worth mentioning that it is the cheapest car from Chevrolet in Chile, priced lower than the Onix and Onix Plus, which are sold for US$ 11,790 (R$ 58,069) each.
If it comes to Brazil, the model could reach R$ 80,000 considering taxes and import fees.
