The New Human Washing Machine Developed by Science Co. Automates Personal Hygiene with Sensor Technology and Focus on Sustainability, Promising a Relaxing Hands-Free Experience.

The Japanese company Science Co. is redefining the concept of personal hygiene with its latest innovation: the human washing machine. Unveiled at the Osaka Expo 2025, the fully automated bathroom system, known as the “Future Human Washer” (or Mirai Ningen Sentakuki in Japanese), promises to transform the daily shower into an immersive spa experience without the need to use hands. The innovation, as detailed by the Interesting Engineering portal, is already attracting enormous public curiosity.

The technology’s goal goes beyond simple convenience. The aim is to merge Japan’s century-old bathing culture, which values both cleanliness and relaxation, with cutting-edge automation. Initial tests are promising: a survey conducted by the company revealed that eight out of ten users were satisfied with the experience, while one in five described it as exceptional.

How Does the Immersive Experience Work?

Visually, the equipment resembles a large, elegant bathtub, with a cover that fully envelops the user. Upon entering, the person reclines inside the soft, contoured interior, and the door closes securely. Immediately, an integrated display is activated, showing relaxing images and sounds, such as gentle ocean waves and sunsets, creating an environment of total tranquility.

The cleaning process begins shortly after, as warm, soapy water automatically fills the compartment to chest height, washing the user’s body without the need for any movement. The entire cycle lasts only a few minutes and, according to reports, leaves participants revitalized, relaxed, and completely clean. The experience is designed to be quick yet deeply effective.

Technology and Sustainability: The Differential of the Future

Unlike traditional showers or bathtubs, the “Future Human Washer” does not rely on manual controls. The system is operated by precision sensors that constantly measure water level, temperature, and flow rate to ensure optimal comfort. According to Interesting Engineering, the equipment maintains immersion at a perfect temperature of 38°C (100 degrees Fahrenheit), considered ideal for relaxation, and slightly reduces the temperature during the rinse cycle for a gentle refresh.

In addition to automation, the company emphasized that sustainability is a pillar of the project. The washer minimizes water consumption through an intelligent recycling and filtration system at every stage of the process. The immersive experience is complemented by built-in speakers in the cover, while visuals extracted from nature documentaries are played in a loop of approximately five minutes, sufficient time to relax without prolonging immersion.

From World Expos to Functional Prototype

The idea of a human washing machine is not entirely new. The Sanyo Electric Co. presented the first version of this concept at the Japan World Expo of 1970. At the time, the prototype used hot water, bubbles, and plastic massage balls to clean and provide a relaxing experience. However, that machine never reached commercial production, remaining only as a vision of the future.

Inspired by this innovation from decades ago, the president of Science Co., Yasauki Aoyama, decided to reinvent the concept for the modern era. Now, as highlighted by Interesting Engineering, the vision has transformed into a fully functional prototype, which has already been tested by over 1,000 visitors at the Osaka Expo 2025, proving its viability and appeal to the public.

Who Will Use It and What Is the Next Step?

Company representatives state that the product is not aimed solely at technology enthusiasts. It is designed for anyone seeking more comfort, accessibility, or time efficiency in their daily routine. Automation may be particularly beneficial for individuals with reduced mobility or for those who simply want to optimize their time with a comprehensive and relaxing hygiene solution.

The future of the human washing machine looks promising. Science Co. plans to launch a mass-market version after the expo, although no release date or confirmed price has been set. Future versions may include AI-driven customization, adjusting temperature, aroma, or sound settings based on each user’s individual preferences, making the experience even more unique.

And you, what do you think of this innovation? Do you believe that a machine like this could become popular in the future, or is it just a technological curiosity? Leave your thoughts in the comments, we want to know what you think!
