Geely, Owner of Volvo, Announces Revolutionary Electric Car Battery! With a lifetime of 50 years and a capacity to travel 1 million kilometers, this innovation promises to change the market. Enhanced safety and ultra-fast charging complete the new technology. Are competitors ready for this revolution?

The automotive industry may be on the brink of a revolution. Geely, the Chinese giant that owns Volvo, has announced a battery for electric cars with the potential to change the global market.

This battery not only promises a lifespan of up to 50 years, but it is also capable of traveling an impressive 1 million kilometers. An innovation that puts competitors on alert and may redefine the standards of efficiency and sustainability in electric vehicles.

According to Geely, the new lithium iron phosphate battery is not only durable but also safer and offers high energy density. With a capacity of 192 Wh/kg, the cell is almost 40% smaller than a conventional automotive battery, providing significant advantages in terms of design and space.

The company emphasizes that the battery can be fully charged 3,500 times with minimal impact on range, totaling the equivalent of 1 million kilometers driven.

Battery Also Charges Faster

The faster charging is another promise of this innovation. Tests reveal that the new compact battery can recover energy more quickly, charging from 10 to 80% in just 17 minutes.

By comparison, the Blade battery from FinDreams Battery, a subsidiary of BYD, takes 26 minutes for the same task.

In extreme cold conditions, Geely’s battery also stands out, maintaining over 90% of maximum charge at -30 °C, compared to about 79% for the competitor.

Safety Is Also a Crucial Point

Safety is a crucial point for Geely. The battery features a layer of aluminum foil that, when punctured, creates a kind of insulator, preventing short circuits and thermal runaway events.

In tests, the battery was punctured by eight steel needles of 5 mm and remained intact for 1 hour without harmful effects. Geely also shot a 5.8 mm bullet at the battery without generating any thermal ignition event.

The battery also withstood immersion in seawater, was subjected to fire, and endured being crushed by 26 tons, demonstrating impressive robustness.

Although Geely has not yet revealed the date for the start of production of vehicles equipped with this new technology, expectations are high. The introduction of this battery could reduce carbon emissions by over 80,000 tons per year, a significant advance for environmental sustainability.

What do you think, do you believe this innovation from Geely will really change the future of electric vehicles? Leave your opinion in the comments!
