FPSOs, Despite Being New, Account for the Highest Number of Occurrences in the Last Year and Operate in the Búzios Field, in the Santos Basin
The FPSOs P-74 and P-75 recorded, between the year 2018 and 2019, the highest number of incidents in Brazil. The data is from ANP and can be obtained through the federal government’s information access system, e-sic.
The platforms are installed in the Santos Basin and are newly operational units, with P-74 starting production in April 2018 and P-75 in November of the same year.
There were 88 incidents recorded during this period on the P-74, with 86 being minor and two moderate, and 73 incidents on the P-75, with 72 minor and one moderate.
Other Petrobras units, which are also recently operating in the Lula Field, also appear on the list, with P-66 in fourth place, having 40 incidents (39 minor and one moderate), P-69 in 12th place with 30 minor incidents, and P-67 in 22nd place with 21 minor and one moderate incident.

Dredged material from navigation channels restores life to Poplar Island, reconstructs 1,715 acres of land, expands open water zones, and creates a refuge for hundreds of migratory and local bird species.
It is surprising that such new units are leading the ranking. Petrobras was asked why and if the issues with the gas system of P-74 and P-75 are related to this. The state company responded by stating that the designation of the term “incident” refers to any type of occurrence, no matter how minor, even if it does not result in personal injury or environmental or property damage, and that it must be reported.
The Numbers
Petrobras completed the statement affirming that a total of 2,268 thousand incidents were recorded in E&P units in the country between March 2018 and February of this year, with 89.2% being minor, 10.23% moderate, and 0.57% serious.
The latter occurred on the platforms P-50, Namorado 2, P-58, P-31, City of Rio de Janeiro, and City of São Vicente; on the rigs Tuscany 120 and PR-02; in the fields of Dom João and Rio dos Ovos, in the Recôncavo Basin; on the diving support vessel (DSV) Wyatt Candies; and at the Industrial Asset of Guamaré (AIG), in Rio Grande do Norte.
In the company ranking, Petrobras leads with 90% of the incidents recorded during the period, with 2,081 thousand occurrences, followed by Shell with 45 incidents, Enauta with 22, Total with 21, and Equinor with 20.
Among the larger incidents this year, we can mention two: the spill of 188 m³ of oil caused by the rupture of a hose transferring fuel from the P-58 platform to a supply ship, 80 km off the coast of Espírito Santo, and another oil spill from Petrobras facilities in the Campos Basin that affected beaches in the Lakes Region, in Rio de Janeiro, including municipalities such as Búzios and Cabo Frio, which occurred earlier this month.
