The Official Statement Was Made by Pedro Parente at an Event in São Paulo, and Brazilian Shipyards Are Expecting a Recovery in the Naval Sector
Petrobras participated in the event “Implementation of Offshore Base as a Lever for Regional Development” yesterday (12) and announced that the Santos Basin will receive 13 more platforms by 2022, of which 8 will be from the state-owned company and the others from companies that win the bids. The event took place in the city of Guarujá, and national, state, and municipal authorities were present.
Pedro Parente emphasized that operations in the Santos Basin have multiplied over the last 10 years, and of all the planned platforms, two-thirds will be allocated to it. The expectation is that production capacity will reach close to 2 million barrels daily. The president of Petrobras states that it is essential for the auctions to resume as soon as possible so that there can be the maximum number of companies operating in the assets of this sedimentary basin.
In the naval sector, this statement from Petrobras came as a bombshell and opens precedents for Brazilian movement in the sector, as the state-owned company has started some negotiations with Brazilian shipyards, for example, Sete Brasil has already initiated all the processes to resolve its legal issues and return to building for Petrobras as soon as possible. There are also informal discussions about implementing an offshore base for the company in the city, and studies are already underway to assess the viability of the project.
